Diet Soda
I keep hearing people say that they lose a lot of water weight after giving up their Diet Coke. I drink ~32oz a day & was curious if anyone has given it up. I definitely want to decrease my intake and replace it with water, but I was just curious if anyone out here has lost weight (water or otherwise) purely by giving up Diet Sodas.
Thanks!
Sarah
I've heard that you can lose up to 15 pds. just by quitting soda. I have tried it and I have lost a good amount of weight, but I don't think all of it added up to 15 pds, because you have to consider if ur eating less as well. It's also good for you to quit diet soda mainly because the sweeteners can mess with your insulin levels. Good luck!
I find that really hard to believe. Sure, diet soda contains sodium and giving it up could get rid of water retention and the pounds that come with it. But a substantial number of pounds from quitting diet soda alone? Questionable.
I know that diet soda can cause hunger for some people, so maybe they're losing the weight after quitting because they're eating less in general. I've never felt that hunger that comes from diet soda, so I continue to drink it when I want, but most of the time I just go for water simply out of habit.
Some people suggest just drinking regular soda as a treat every now and then if you're going to have soda. For me, I've always liked diet sodas better.
When I started my diet and quite soda, I lost a good 10 pounds. It is true that if you drink a lot of soda, and give it up, you do lose a good amount of weight.
Agreed. But honestly I think it's how much of it you're drinking in addition to your eaten calories. I was literally drinking 900+ empty calories a day in addition to eating before portion control so honestly good luck guessing my actual consumption. When I got off the soda, I was already doing portion control and I did notice weight coming off faster. I didn't go to diet or juice or another "filler" drink and just stuck with my water, or the crystal light and community 'diet' tea. I do the cl and tea in moderation, usually it's water or hot green tea or coffee with no sugar. Might use splenda now and again if I feel like it in those but I'm at a spot I can do them black. Have heard similar from family that cut out the diet so I don't know if it's water retention or something caused by sodas or what but I think there's a link to that and getting off some extra weight.
Artificial sweeteners are just pure chemicals. Nothing good about them.

Thanks everyone for your input! I agree that the artificial sweetners are a no-no. I can't stand the taste of regular soda but I've been doing well drinking water. So far I've been able to cut it down to about 8-16oz of diet coke a day. It's one of my worst habits!
I wasn't weighing regularly at the time, so I can't say about the weight loss - but I can tell you that when I stopped drinking soda - my stomach sure feels less "sticking out" and bloated all the time. I guess that became "normal" feeling. And now, my taste buds don't really like the bubbles against my tongue anymore - and I used to think that was the best part of having a soda.
