Diet soda???

Quote  |  Reply

With diet soda having 0 calories - is it ok to have 1 diet soda/day or should you really stay away from soda all together - even if it's diet?

I'm a bad one to respond, because I drink it all day every day.

If you are worried about aritifical sweeteners, then stay away from DC.

A lot of people say that the sweeteners make you overeat, but as long as you count your calories I don't see how that can be an issue, unless it makes you so hungry that you overeat anyway.

Personally, I love it, and won't give it up.

Agree, It was hard to change to a diet soda the only thing I would watch in the diet soda is sodium (aka salt) put everything in the log even the soda...Wink

I am addicted to diet coke so I have one a day. It has not affected my dieting. It does not make me hungry. it actually fills me up. I have lost about 25 pounds so far. If you want it, drink it. It doesn't screw up weight loss.

Ok great - thanks for the replies!

I gave it up when I started on this site on July 17. I have a giant sweet tooth, and without my twice-daily fresca or diet wild cherry pepsi, I haven't craved hardcore like I used to. I drink tons of water, tea, iced unsweetend tea, and coffee (hot + iced espressos)... not tons of coffee. though. a girl's gotta sleep!

in a avg day i drink 40 to 64 oz of diet coke or coke zero!  i do drink water although its very little.

i really need to get off soda.  any suggestions on how to do this?

stop buying it maybe...

For a while I was making deals with myself to try to drink less.  Basically I would have to drink and equal amount of water before I could have any diet soda.  I would take a 20 oz soda bottle and fill it with water, and I would have to drink it all before I could have another soda.

But I got tired of it, and went back to drinking them all day.

I do drink water when I work out, but that's about the only time.

I would say to be attuned to the effects that the aspartame might have on you.  There is a documentary on Netflix called "Sweet Misery" that documents the health problems that some people have experienced as a result of aspartame.  However, it's like anything else-- some people seem to have no adverse effects.  I enjoy a diet soda a few times a week and don't have headaches or any other negative symptoms.  So it is basically your call!

I would say to stay away from it, if possible.  If you really like soda, 1 diet soda a day isn't going to hurt.

One of the problems with soda is the sodium, which will actually dehydrate you.

tgeving,

What I did was got about three different diet soda's and removed the label, numbered them and then tried small 8oz cups of each. When I liked one of the soda's  I drank until I got sick of drinking it. After that I also drank 20 oz soda and 20 oz water in one day. Try the zero calorie soda.

Hmm....

You know, I have noticed that ever since I stopped drinking soda, about 18 days ago, I'm not as hungry, at least that's what it feels like. When I started using this calorie counter I expected to go far above my limit, but I was having trouble even getting to it. Surprised the hell out of me.

I don't miss soda at all personally, hell I drink it now and I'm like "Eh.." I went to Taco Bell after a movie with my sister, and I still didn't drink any even though I knew I was already being bad with a taco and a burrito.

Go to the grocery store and find a flavor of Crystal Light or any type of water mix in that you love.

I love Crystal Light: Wild Strawberry, I have 3 boxes next to my bed, completely cut out my need for soda. I just can't drink plain water unless I'm out walking/running, but I knew I needed to get off of soda, so I went to the store one day and bought like 5 different flavors of Crystal Light.

There's Hawaiian Punch Sugerfree ones too.

I started by drinking seltzer water it helped give me the fizzyness I craved!
I'd say one a day though isnt bad at all, is it the taste or the caffeine you crave?

I gave it up when I started losing weight. Not only did I have it too often but it just isn't good for your teeth/health. Once I reach my goal weight, I will treat myself to soda but I will not have it often.
