Hey everyone.
Am currently wondering if Diet Soda's either help lose weight or wreak havoc on your metabolism enabling you not to lose weight,is this true ?.
Hello!
Well, diet sodas are really not good for you. First of all, the aspartame is extremely bad for your health. For example, this website lists different health problems that is associated with consuming aspartame. http://www.sweetpoison.com/aspartame-side-eff ects.html
Now, I'm not saying that regular sodas are good for you either. I would reccomend drinking water instead :). I've lost a total of 30 pounds in about 6 months and one change to my diet which has really helped me has been to replace 95% of my drinks with water. If you find water too bland, try adding a slice of lime, lemon or orange to give it some flavour, or to drink some perrier or club soda which has no calories!
Bottom line, I would not reccomend diet sodas or anything that has to do with artificial sweeteners. If you do really want a soda, however, budget it in with your daily calories and limit yourself to one, and chose the regular over the diet. Hope this helps! :)
i drink diet sodas nearly every day and it hasn't hindered my weight loss, if anything it keeps me from eating something i shouldn't. i do try to limit them to 1-2 a day because the long term affects of the artificial sweeters are uknown.

Am going to try this, thank you.
But i really want as answer if sodas effect weight loss or gains, personally i feel when am drinking soda it prevents me from eating but doesn't exactly keep my full either.
The artificial sweetners are often questioned, but I've continued to lose weight while drinking 1-2 every few days to control my soda cravings. I've started to drink more in recent months and it hasn't stopped my weight loss even a little.
I had to train myself to drink soda lol, and I love it now. It's been my diet's best friend. I'll use it to stifle a small craving when I know I'm not really hungry.
I was never a soda-drinker. I've always drank water and little else, but learning to stand, and then enjoy diet soda has been great! I'd recommend it to anyone.
Also - I'm pretty sure that artificial sweeteners don't have any proven dangers to humans. My school newspaper did battling opinion pieces on it last year, and there are no tests that have proven anything negative about sweeteners, beyond trials that don't really relate to actual human consumption. If you give a mouse like a billion times more than any human would ever consume, its brain explodes or something ridiculous like that.
I like to buy Kool-Aid packets and then sweeten them with Stevia, rather than buy diet sodas. Stevia is a natural calorie-free sweetener, and you can find it in health food stores (and in some supermarkets, if they have a natural food section). The kool-aid does have chemicals, so it's not *as* healthy as just drinking water, but I've found I drink a lot more liquid if I make Kool-Aid with stevia, rather than plain water.
I love diet sodas, they're great for curing cravings. All this talk about aspartame being bad for your health is a bunch of bullsh1t. The only studies that "prove" anything are on mice and the mice are given roughly 500 times the aspartame in a diet soda every day for like a year, so you're giving a creature 1/200 th the weight of a person 500 times as much aspartame as drinking a diet soda. Do the math... that's 100,000 times the aspartame per lbs that a person drinking one diet soda a day would have. You give anything that much of any chemical and it's going to be bad for it. I hate how people think aspartame is so bad for you just because it's not natural.
bottom line: there is significant research linking the consumption of artificial sweeteners to cancer among other diseases. not only that, but when you drink sugars, real or fake, it only leaves you craving more sugar, which WILL wreak havoc on a diet.
A lot of stuff is linked to cancer that we still use everyday, like canned goods, plastics, moisturizers, hair dye, deodorant.
I drink 1 diet soda every other day, sometimes everyday, sometimes 2 a day, I haven't gained a pound for 2years, I think they might cause you to retain water, and depending on you personally could trigger or suppress a sweet craving.
I know people think that apartame is nothing but I will tell you that if I drink/eat something with aspartame once a day then after a few days I start suffering migraines and continue to get migraines every day until I discontinue all use of aspartame.

I get a migraine about an hour after drinking a can of diet coke.

Are you sure its the aspartame and not caffeine? I get headaches if I drink a lot of caffeine then stop or if I don't have it for a long time then have a diet coke. I've only experienced this with pop, not artificially sweetened lemonade or ice cream or anything else.
Diet Coke is great in moderation, caffeine dehydrates the body but boosts the metabolism slightly (depending on your consumption).
My sister has migraines, her neurologist told her to cut caffeine or dark colas from her diet, she did & only drinks diet 7up now. She has reduced her migraines to maybe 2 a year from about 2 a month. I think he also told her to cut Chocolate.
