So, my doctor gave me this diet when I had my checkup. What do you guys think?

5-7 servings of vegetables (1/2 cup cooked or 1 cup raw)
2 fruits a day (one fruit is a half a banana or half an apple) and no juice
2-3 servings of milk a day
3-4 ounces of protein (One egg or 1/2 a chicken breast)
3-4 servings of bread a day (1 slice of bread, 1/2 bagel, 1/2 potato)

I honestly don't know about this. There are many kinds of juice that are really good for you in moderation, like cranberry. I also feel that I should be having more fruit and protein than that. I may use it as a guideline, but not follow it entirely. I don't want to starve myself! My doctor is on drugs or something...

I agree - you should have more fruit servings than bread for sure. The juice though is better if you make it fresh yourself - all other commercial juices are mostly sugar or sweetner anyhow and juice is best if you drink it within minutes of juicing - all the good enzymes break down after that.

My nutritionist told me the same thing - same proportions roughly as your doctor except she told me more fruit, half the bread.  She also advised having 2 portions of protein a day - 3-4 ounces is only one serving size/portion so I would double that.  You can also try beans and lentils as a very high fibre source of protein and iron - they are also much more filling than meat and lower in saturated fats.

Hope this was helpful!

I always choose fruit over juice.  Juice has a lot of calories.  Fruit has less calories and a good portion of fiber.

I think I may just use it as a guideline. The lack of protein on there baffles me, lol

You might want to get a referral to a nutritionist.  Doctors don't know everything, after all.

I learned:

Eat as many veggies and fruit as you can. they are good for you period and they help when you get the munchies

Milk: Is actually VERY FATTENING. Sure it has protiens/vitamins but those vitamins are also found by eating nuts or fruit. If you wanna drink milk, drink soy milk, its perfectly fine for you. Dairy products are usually bad for you, they contain a lot of fat. I like eating my fruit with cottage cheese, its the only healthy cheese I know.

Bread: no... bread isnt good for you either. if you need to eat bread, eat bread with whole grains and wheat, much better then regular white bread.

I learned you should cut down on your meat intake, it takes a lot of time for our body to brake down meat, so try to eat as less as possible. you also need to take into account meat has a lot of hormones in it (besides other nasty surprises), so it also causes harsher healthy problems down the line.

I know it all sounds strick... but a lot of stuff out there isnt healthy for us, but it makes money and keeps a lot of people in business so our health is sacrificed. just be picky on what you eat. trust me you will end up feeling better
