Diet/Workout Rut

I'm having a very hard time getting motivated to eat healthy and exercise. I used to weigh 20lbs more than I do now and lost the weight over a period of 4 years. I would like to lose an additional 5lbs, but am having major issues with it.

I can't buy health magazines to get motivated again because they are always the same articles with different pictures. (We all know salmon is good for you; eat a handful of nuts; fiber, fiber, fiber!!; exercise 3-4 times with weights alternating in between cardio days)

I also am an emotional binge eater so when I am doing well and eating right, there can be times when I feel like I'm sabotaging myself and overeat!

I want to lose the weight and keep it off for good. I'm in a new relationship and have found that sometimes if I get too comfortable, I'll gain weight. I don't want to do that since I've worked hard to lose the weight.

Counting calories is not a good option for me and I can't restrict myself too much since I'm already veg. I'm starting to work out again as well.

Any advice?

My feeling is that you just have to keep it fun, make it interesting and be creative.  I don't think anyone should need to be 'motivated' to achieve a healthy lifestyle.... that makes it sound like you're trying to force yourself to do something fundamentally unpleasant.  If you're doing something enjoyable it's a pleasure to keep doing it.  I sing with a band once a week and not only do I not need motivating to rehearse.... wild horses wouldn't keep me away!! Smile

If your diet is boring and repetitive, try some new foods, new recipes, dishes from other cultures.  If your diet is too rigidly 'carrot and oatbran' healthy, make time for some treats..... the last 5lbs isn't as important as finding a good balance.   If you're fed up with 'cardio and weights' (and personally I think gyms are the most godawful places on earth) then find something else to do that's energetic.... hill walking, trampolining, archery, country dancing.... It really doesn't matter what it is as long as it passes the acid test.... "AM I ENJOYING THIS?"

Get pleasure out of your healthy lifestyle, your weight will stay in control and you won't need to binge to find enjoyment.  Good luck
