Yo-Yo Dieting & Wrinkling PLEASE HELP ME!!

Quote  |  Reply

Hi, I have been yo-yo dieting (usually binging/starving) for the past year. I am now seeing the physical effects.

Besides my muscle weakness & constant fatigue, I am now noticing WRINKLES on my hands & feet, and minor wrinkling in other areas. And I'm only 16! How can I have wrinkles?

Is there anything I can do to reverse this from happening, or help get my young wrinkle-free skin back??

I cant really think of anything besides fixing your eating habits. Regular healthy eating and excersize?

I have the same problem thanks to binging, and would like to hear other peoples inputs as well (although I have a hunch its going to be the same: healthy lifestyle)

Have you recovered from your binge-starve cycles?

Your number one concern should be to fix your disordered eating habits. The hands will follow once you regain your health.

Your diet, if continued, could have deleterious long-term and short-term effects. Since you are a teen, you can make amends now and hopefully any long-term damage will be reversible

Besides, the slowing of the metabolism, other bad effects on your health in the long-term of your stressful diet include losing teeth, hair, osteoporosis as a young woman, heart attack, liver, kidney malfunction etc etc ... as you have experienced, in the short-term undereating can lead to diet frustration and yo-yo weight loss/gain as it's hard to maintain what amounts to a starvation diet followed by a binge - this is especially if you are a teen and require higher amounts of cals.

Calorie Count's mission is to promote healthy and sustainable weight management. We will give support to teens looking to healthfully manage their weight, but we cannot and will not support undereating teens.

Your approach to weight management is against posting guidelines.

  • Your post is subject to modification or deletion by our moderators. Repetitive, off-topic, disruptive, and frivolous posts will be removed. We will take down any posts that violate either the letter or the spirit of any of these rules.
  • Promotion of starvation diets or habits that exhibit signs of an eating disorder ("pro-ana", "pro-mia", etc.) is prohibited.

Drink Lots of Water, a glass or 2 with Every Meal or more.  It makes you feel full and then there is no need for binging or starving because your not taking in alot of calories.  Your skin will re-hydrate and it's alot healthier than your current methods.

Your calorie intake should still be over 1600 per day because your young.  Just make sure you eat guilt free food, like fruits and vegetables. If you feel good about what your putting in your body your less likely to feel the need to binge or starve yourself.  3 regular (small - Med) meals and 2-3 (small) snacks per day is a good way to go.

If you feel the need to have something sweet or salty, do it!  Just in small quantities.  Denying yourself makes you eat more and feel guilty.  Avoid guilt.

Also, exercise takes off way more pounds than dieting.  It speeds up your metabolism, gives you shape, muscle tone and makes you "feel good".  Eat Healthy, drink lots of water and exercise.  It's really the best way to go.

Lastly, if you still feel the "need" to continue with these methods after trying these things...  Seek Medical Attention!!  This is very dangerous lifestyle!!  It can kill you!!

Take care of yourself!!

Provided you stop the yo-yo behaviour it will improve overtime.  Keep your skin moisturised so that is in good condition and they will naturally reduce over time.  If you continue to yo-yo they will only get worse and can become semi permanent.
