Diets need party time! Advice on incorporating alcohol.
For everyone that loves drinking: It's pretty much impossible for me to completely quit drinking but I cut it down to one day a week, on fridays. It's kind of my cheat day so I get a little sauced and saturday is my day off from exercise (because I might be a little hung over). This is working great!! I have a day to look forward to during the week so I don't feel deprived, it doesn't impact my diet and exercise and I am so productive on the other weekdays because I'm not drinking those empty calories and I feel good. I still lose weight doing this. So pick your own day and try it! It's realistic if you like to party. Is anyone with me on this?
I indulge on my day off (rest days) and then exercise the next day. On regular nights, I might keep some extra calories available for a drink-just one.
I've noticed that I'm losing the desire to drink so much and if I drink on an exercise day, I have a lower tolerance (cheap date!). Before I was pretty much drinking a loaf of bread several times a week.
Luckily for me, I've lost the tolerance i had in high school and college. I can no longer drink a 5th of vodka and not expect to suffer tremendously the next day. So, 2-3 drinks is my world now. I'm with ya laallisonra, we have to do the things we like- just in moderation (thse days for me it's more about avoiding the bathroom than avoiding weight gain!). Also, most of my diet concious friends drink diet coke and jack (though personally I think it tastes like paint thinner). I find drinking something like a bloody mary (which i love) slows things down a little- can't chug that like I would a cosmo! It's a winner all around- little less drinking- fewer headaches, save some $, keep losing weight. ![]()
What REALLY has made the biggest difference for me is no longer drinking the beer my boyfriend buys (though I'll still steal a sip of his) during the week. If I have one, I am likely to have another, and after that it's like- "whatever! i'll just drink whatever I want! and i'm kinda hungry now...wonder what's in the fridge?...." If I avoid the first one, I avoid all the others and the subsquent snacking.
Vodka soda with lemon is good, very refreshing and the bubbles help you feel fuller.
