difference in Central American and USA culture

Quote  |  Reply
Okay, so this is a culture question. I'm American, but I live in Guatemala. There's this Guatemalan boy that I hang out with a lot. About a month ago, okay I'll be blunt, but he tried to feel me up. And I got over that because I figured that it's normal here. I like him, but I'm afraid that he will expect more from me then what I'm willing to give. Does anyone have any experience with Central American countries? Thank you so much!

I have plenty of experience.  Lived in Panama for 6 years.

First of all how old are you two?  How long have you guys been hanging out.  If he's feeling you up he probably just wants something physical.  No guy that truly respects you will try to touch you unless you have given him the impression that it's ok to do so.

I believe this is true regardless of the culture.  I've met plenty of latin boys and there is no difference with them, boys are boys regardless of race.

I turn 16 in a month, and he is 17.
i agree with chica: country and culture aside, it's your body.  you get to decide who touches it, and how and when.  you don't have to make excuses for this boy.

I really have nothing to say on the subject, but I just had to reply because I'm (half) Guatemalan!  My dad is from there.  ;)  I love that country, it's so beautiful!!

It's up to you to decide what you want.  If you're in doubt I would definitely not.  You can either bring the subject up yourself and tell him that you're not interested or you can simply avoid him for a while or wait until he tries again and then tell him no.  You need to be firm and clear with your no but you do not need to give any excuses.

I am from Honduras and have visited Guatemala and other C.A countries and honeslty I agree boys are boys ANYWHERE! I think you need to set some boundaries and demand respect in Guatemala or anywhere else.. if you don't want him to touch you let him know!

My mom went to HS in Costa Rica... a Costa Rican guy was in all of her classes (she attended an American private academy).  It may have been because she was one of maybe a handful of women in the entire country with blonde hair, but for four years this guy chased after her...

Ironically, he was a young Costa Rican by the name of José María Figueres Olsen... better known as the former President of Costa Rica (1994-1998).
