What is the difference between flax seed oil and linseed oil?

Answer

Linseed oil, the wood protectant and paint binder, is also known as flax seed oil, the nutritional supplement. They are both derived from flax plant.  The difference stems from the way the oil is obtained from the seed.  Food-grade flaxseed oil is cold-pressed, whereas linseed oil is usually extracted using a solvent.  Flaxseed oil also comes from seeds that have been breed to have more essential fatty acids, which are transformed by the body into omega-3 fats. Omega-3s may protect against inflammation, cardiovascular disease, and some cancers.
