What a difference!
Hi!
I am 5'4.5 and trying to maintain a weight of 110 pounds. The calorie needs on this website state I should be eating around 1600 calories a day in order to maintain my weight (on days I do not exercise)
HOWEVER- I just got a subscription to self magazine and went to their website and this is what it said:
To maintain a healthy weight of around 110.0 pounds and fuel your current activity level, you need to take in about 1125 calories a day
That seems WAY LOW! Maybe I should average it out?
Thanks!
Maggie
wouldnt 110 be underweight for your height??
I really don't think you should listen to anything that says that you need to consume less than 1200 calories. Also, 110 does seem pretty small for your height. Is that actually a healthy weight? I am only a tiny bit taller than you 5'5" and I know that I am not supposed to go below 118 (at the absolute bare minimum).
Hm...I'm about the same as you (5'5" and 115), and it says I need 1885 cal to maintain in a sedentary lifestyle. The calculator on here also says about 1600 for me. Maybe it's a wonky calculator.
Is this the link you used (I know it's not Self.com but they listed it)? http://www.nutritiondata.com/tools/calories-b urned
Im 5'4.5 too and 110 is not too low...its actually the lowest she can go without doing harm to herself...my nutritionist said so, and I Dont think she'd be making this up sicne thats my goal weight...Im underweight, and she recommended that weight for me as a start.
anyway...1600 seems fair enough..but I Think the best thing you can do is do a little experiment on your own...it changes for everyone so you should check what works for you.
though 1600 is a good amount for sedentary days...on days you do exercise aim for 1800-1900..depending on the amount of exercise you do, you can even go all the way up to 2,000 and not gain.
anyway...dont pay attention to any calculator that gives you anything below 1,600...trust me.

BABANEE-"she recommended that weight for me as a start.", as a START, the OP wants that as her goal. check the bmi charts and for someone in recovery you want to be well in the center of the healthy bmi range, not just healthy enough, for the optimal chance of a long lasting recovery.
best of luck to all
Thanks for the advice. I thought that under 1200 was nowhere I wanted to be! As far as my weight, I have always been this size and did not diet to get here, but as I enter my mid 20's I was curious about how to stay here. I love all the clothes I have and want to stay in them as long as possible!!!
Thanks again!
I realized after I posted that it is entirely possible that my age vs your age makes a difference in "healthy" weight. So although at my age, 110 is not a healthy weight, it could be at yours, I guess.
I find I often have questions about "too low" weight.
I am 5'3 and weigh 115. I went from 135-140 ish, which for my small frame was VERY chubby, down to 115. I am still considering dropping 5 more. My waist is the biggest part of me (call me an apple if you will) and I still have a good amount (I would say 3 lbs) of fat directly on my midsection and no where else. Therefore, I believe if I had a flat stomach by losing more weight, how would that be unhealthy?

I am not sure about how your weight works into the healthy range, but wonder if maybe instead of trying to lose more weight if the only weight left is in your stomach, maybe you just need to focus more of your exercise on your waist. Maybe losing another 5 lbs will help, but I would guess that you will still be stuck with the stomach being the part you are unhappy with. Just my thought on it.
i agree w NBOES, your weight is fine, any lower would be practically unhealthy so id suggest toning excrcises but not losing weight.
take care
Is my sodium intake too low?
You have nothing to worry about because sodium deficiency is extremely rare. In fact, there is not even an recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA... Read more
