what is the average time it takes for food to digest ?

From putting the food in you mouth to when it leaves you stomach i'd say around 3 hours.

For it to pass entirely through you intestines it takes around 4 or 5 hours.

Then it has to pass through your colon which is another few hours...

So i would say from mouth to toilet around 11 hours!

Sounds about right. I've also read in my books that it can take up to 15 hours from the moment you eat it until it leaves your body.

I was just teaching digestive system to my 7th grade class today.

It spends 3 hours in your stomach.

From mouth to the moment it leaves your body is 3 days.
