Digestion

Quote  |  Reply

I have the WORST digestion system EVER. honestly i could eat just about anything and get constipated. i eat 2500 calories a day usually. I might be my fat intake but hey? idk how to get that up without eating trashy foods.

I read that Peanut butter  causes constipation.  and Beans Seem to be hard for my body to digest. Do you think my body would digest it better if i mashed them up and made like a tomate/bean soup out of them or something instead of just me chewing plain beans?

And peanut butter. How constipating is it really?    Any tips to get fat up and how much should i get it up.

in the mornings i have to do this wierd "rutual" just to be able to "go"        ;. i have to drink a hugeee empty juicy juice bottle full of hotish water and just kinda "push" while i eat my breakfast..............dang thats embarassing to say to you guys but i have to get advice lol

Oh and what are some food that are easily digested?            Is fiber cerials easily digested?

and if it is easily digested wouldnt that mean i would get hungry faster?

if thats true iam definately screwed

I had intestinal surgery a while ago and afterwards the dietician at the hospital put me on a low-residue diet. Basically it's a diet that is very easy on your intestines, and very easy to digest. I couldn't eat any raw veggies, no whole wheats...no roughage basically (very low fiber), limited dairy, no nuts, no greasy (fried) foods, no breadded things...you can look up the details by googling a low-res diet. The great thing about it is that since everything is pretty much mush before you eat it (like mashed potatoes, bananas, tuna salad...) then your body doesn't have to work as hard to break down the foods you eat. I had no problems going to the bathroom... and I didn't have to even put any effort into it... but it was kind of like, when I had to go, I HAD to go.

You could try that for a while (like maybe a week) and see if it helps to get you system going, and then after that I would slowly add some more fiber and fibrous foods back in to keep you regular (otherwise you'll end up back where you started).

I have the opposite problem.  I can't digest fats very well and they make me go a lot.  Make sure you are:

1)drinking enough water

2)eating enough fiber in

a)beans (legumes)

b)whole grains-whole wheat, try wheat germ, bran, oatmeal, Oroweat "double fiber" bread

c)raw greens like celery, lettuce, cabbage, spinach

d)lightly cooked veggies like corn

If you already do that, you may need a fiber supplement.  I've never heard of peanut butter being constipating.

yeah i hadnt heard of that either but i just looked it up and it confirmed that Peanut butter and bananas are both constipating... SAD because i LOVE both together grilled and what not.

So i never know how to fix my digestion problems because i eat plenty of fiber and drink water like a camel so the only thing i could figure is not enough fat?

or my digestive system just hates me or if all else fails iam stressed out 24/7 and thats why. hmmmmmmm

thanks guys for your input . i appriciate everything you guys do to help=]

how much do you exercise and do you do it at the same time?  I found out that exercising made me more regular, fewer surprise visits to the restrooms at Borders or the Mall after breakfast.

And yes, stress can definitely back you up!!

i Loveeee running... its like my "high"      &nb sp; haha high  4-20 today , makes me think of all those Losers... dang

alright back on subject . haha but i do exercise enough=/

hmmmm

Well, um, have you tried eating a "sugar alcohol" based cookie ? Like Murray's sugar free oatmeal cookies.  Just ONE.  Have you eaten "sugar alcohol" before?  (Sugar free candies and what not - that contaiins this ingredient).* Try one before bedtime and by morning, you should be pleasantly surprised : )  No matter how much you exercise, how much water you drink helps - I felt your 'pain'.  The nurse and doc said to me more water, more exercise, prune juice (eeek - yuk!).  Even stool softners !!!!  No exlax for this girl !

Okay, TMI !!!

*Not advocating this for substituting your own doctors advise

ive had sugar free icecream and tons of other sugar free stuff. and that doesnt really work with me either =[ haha i feel kinda hopeless in this department       ;

dude, just go to  the store, buy a stupid package  of Murray's Sugar free oatmeal cookies.  Sugar alchol is sorbitol.  Have one tonight !

I expect a post on what happned tommorrow.  No so many details though =)~

haha i have something here with that. so ill have a table spoon of it.. .like sugar free myple syrup?      &nb sp;       good enough? i think  it is.

yeah me too, i get "clogged" when i eat too much fat, personally i feel better  when i eat lots of carbs and protien, and moderate fat.

miralax works wonders for my son.  it's a new stool softner that supposidly works only on the digestive system.  It's sorta like benefiber, you just mix a capful into your water/drink/cereal/food and it's tasteless.  the day after we tried it My son was pooping like a pro, and has not reported any cramps related to the medicine. (he has been taking the softner since last summer)

miralax worked for me to. except for it would bloat me up super bad. i dk if it was a reaction or what but i resorted to taking it last week when i was super stopped up and it didnt really help and bloated me up but i dont take it anymore unless i have to but i have some here. maybe ill give it another go if i get bad off . thanks!

There are two different types of fiber, soluble and insoluble. One helps to "move" things along in your system. Beans are not that type of fiber. If you eat too much soluble fiber (beans, nuts, etc.) it can bind you. You need high water content insoluble fiber to clean your system out. Leafy greens are the best. Here is a website to help you out on your fiber intake!

Good luck!

I dont know if you like coffee, but one cup of regular coffee does it for me.  Its low in cals.  I dont even think it makes a difference f its decaf.  Ever since I had my baby I have similar issues, but I cannot drink regular coffee because I breastfeed but decaf does it for me.

i would say water, water, water. and some good oils for lubricating the system. i hear coconut oil although very fattening is superb for that.  also to soak things like grains & beans over night, which releases the protease inhibitors that make them hard to digest. and you actually absorb the protein from them better. only draw back is soaking grains can make them mushy.

and this weird drink that i've tried in the mornings, lemon, cayenne pepper & hot water.  they say lemon helps to break up sticky 'things' (????), cayenne stimulates the digestive system (although try a little bit at a time), and that hot water can help you "go" to the bathroom. to make it even weirder add some olive oil, garlic & fresh ginger.

not to mention fiber but you need lots of water with any extra fiber you add.

YOU AND ME BOTH! ha ha! Eating loads of fiber doesn't help & neither does drinking a lot of water! it is completely miserable! The only time things "happen" is when I have flaxseeds or flaxseed oil in my diet - but that only happens with I am at home - so when I am at school - I am screwed! ha ha!

Olive Oil is another good way to get things going - or eating fatty fish - or having soy sauce(at least for me ha ha!)

HAHAHAHA YOU EAT on the toilet?? That's sorta unsanitary, but whatever works for things to get moving I guess! LOL!

Do you get bloated and such too? Cause I do - I take digestive enzymes & vitamin C which tend to help the bloat & stuff, but NOT ALWAYS! I am pretty mystified by the whole constipation & digestion thing too, but my tips above do help!

haha i dont EAT on the toilet LOL. but i will have to look into all of this stuff. They sound like really good ideas though!

You should try looking into probiotic supplements also. I've always had very bad digestion problems, but I found Flora Q and I've had no problems since. It's pretty amazing.
