Digital Food scales
So, recently, I got a food scale, but the thing is, it's analog, and it's really really really hard to tell exactly how much the food weighs. For example, on the grams side, it goes by 25's, so, the midway point between the 25 and the 50 is a miniscule little space that can make a BIG difference.
anywho, I was wondering if anyone knew of any lower-priced yet reliable digital food scales out there? Do they exsist? And if they do, are there models that are under, say, 100 dollars or more?
All this guess and check work is making me even more paranoid than before.
There are several digital food scales available for under $100. Google shopping found 1393 different models. Seems the standard increments for these scales are 1g or 0.1 oz.

hope this helps
I got mine off eBay for around $20 as well.
Digital food scales are so overpriced! It sucks. I got mine from a Kitchen 'n' Stuff warehouse for about $30. And it's the bomb, I use it every day. Check and see if there are any surplus kitchen stores near you (or restaurant supply stores), they will probably have something reasonable.
bought mine at walmart for $30,- and you can set it to either grams or oz, it weighs exact to the gram and I love it, so really no need to spend a whole lot of moneys to get a good scale :-) btw at a restaurant suply store you will not find any cheap ones! Really try kitchen gadget stores or walmart or something like that
Thanks everyone for their input! I'm looking forward to going scale shopping soon now :)
I like the Escali Primo Digital Multifunctional Scale - you can get it on Amazon.com for about $25 (http://www.amazon.com/Escali-Primo-Digital-Mu ltifunctional-Chrome/dp/B0007GAWRS/ref=pd_bbs _sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=12203 87021&sr=8-1).
I also have a scale that my mom bought for me (from Bed Bath and Beyond) - it was about $75.00 but both scales (the $75 and the $25) work the same.
Good luck!
I got a great one at Williams Somona for $50.00 - sorry I don't remember the brand name - but you can out a plate on it, "Zero" the scale, and then put your food on it for an exact what -
No messy subtraction!
I don't know if this exists yet or not, but if I ever get motivated, I'm going to invent it and make millions:
My idea is a digital food scale with a built in calorie counter. ie you plug in the number of calories per serving size, and number of grams/oz per serving size, and then weigh your food. It tells you the weight, and the number of calories.
I got one for like $12
Spending over $30 is, IMO, ridiculous

I think it runs a little over $100 at Bed, bath, and beyond....
darn....there goes my fortune. :(
Walmart $20.00. I tried the analog scale and decided that was a complete waste of time. Good luck on your search.
Try a Sunbeam postal scale from an office supply shed store. I paid about $20 from a store in Houston when visiting from the UK. Its great - increments of 1 gram and has the tare button to add and re-zero.
I am usuing these

very accurate and easy to use. it is $25.5 and they will ship it for free.
My Chefmate scale works great. You can get one online or at stores like Target. It has 1000 foods in the memory so you can find the calories with the scale. You can program it for 99 of your favorite foods not included too. However, with CC I hardly use that feature. I just find the number of grams and use CC to enter the food in my food log. For certain foods it's very important to accurately weigh the grams. Dried fruit and nuts are so concentrated in their calories that a little fudging can really add up. When I put Craisins or sunflower seeds on my salad I always weigh them. It's also helped me with how much cereal I put in my bowl every morning. I was probably eating 50% more than I thought.
I bought a digital food scale at Bed Bath & Beyond last weekend for $20 and I LOVE it! It's small, but can weigh up to 6lbs. You can switch it from oz to g, and you can zero out the scale after putting your plate or bowl on it before adding food so you don't have to figure out what the dish added to the weight. Super easy!
I don't rememebr the brand, but it was endorsed by The Biggest Looser and has a small little picture of their logo on the front.
ugh, i've been using this analog postal scale that i've had for YEARS. it doesn't show grams, but has ounces and in half ounce increments up until 1lb. It works, but looking at these digital scales would be so much easier!
