is it ok to dip below 1200 occasionally on veeeery inactive days?
So i got the whole do not go below 1200 cals, but considering I don't need to lose that much weight, I can't afford to eat that many calories when I'm not getting some sort of exercise...
So for example today, I've literally done ZERO exercize, I have literally spent my entire day lounging on my sofa watching t.v, getting up to go to the kitchen or the bathroom in a small one bedroom..hehe..
so having said that, is it ok to eat more like 1000 cals or 900 if i don't make it a habit..i just have literally done zero movement today and i still want my deficit to lose at the end of the week
I think you can..I do it some times
most people shoot fro 1200 or 1500 or 2000 or more but most of the time
they pass that because of toppings they put on the food or that slice of bread they forgot.
So in your situation..I agree...however I do recommend when you do it your eating nutrient rich foods as well as watching the calories. I can eat less than 200 cal when eating grains for example..which are very filling.
The 1200-calorie minimum is basically a bare minimum to simply provide your body with the nourishment it needs to survive. It's the minimum to allow your organs to have enough fuel to adequately maintain proper function. So really, it's the amount you shouldn't dip below regardless of activity (or lack thereof).
Going below it once in a while isn't really going to be detrimental, but feeling like you need to always have a deficit and wanting to go under the recommended minimum in order to do so can be really detrimental to weight-loss in the long term. Eating too little slows down your metabolism and causes your body to not burn calories as efficiently. It can also lead to malnourishment and cause you to binge.
I don't know if it's okay or not. But I usually have one day a week when I eat 900 or 1000 calories. Not because I necessarily mean to, but I get busy and forget to eat the rest of my calories. Or I'm exhausted and end up falling asleep before I eat them. Or, I just cannot stand the thought of putting anything else in my mouth that day. ![]()
Thank you all, it's just this whole talk aout ur body going into starvation mode blabla, it made me paranoid because i definitely do not want to stall my weightloss when i've only started a month ago
how long does it take for ur metabolism to slow down? if i do this a couple of times a week, how long does it take for the body to register that it needs to start storing fat and ruining it for me? lol
What is your current height and weight? If you happen to be underweight and wanting to get even skinnier, then you should definitely not be eating under 1,200 calories. But..... if you have an ED, then that's between you and your doctor.
If you are at a healthy weight, or a little over, then as has been stated above, eating below 1,200 calories is okay once in awhile as long as you don't make it a habit. We have to keep our bodies fueled if we're going to keep up our energy and be healthy.
I am not sure exactly how much I actually weigh because I don't weigh myself, i go by feeling and clothes, i am actually looking to go back to my original weight just because my clothes dont fit anymore and well, that sucks as i can't afford a new wardrobe, and am a tad bit overweight, i'd be super happy with 10 pound to go back to my size six
so because im so close to my ideal weight, i know it'll be harder for me to lose which is why i don't want to jeopardize it even more by doing sthg stupid..
but no, am definitely not underweight just not very overweight
Eating 1200 calories would not jeopardize anything though. It would still give you a deficit - just a smaller one than in you'd exercised. Honestly, intentionally undereating just because you were inactive is not a good sign. It's one thing to have the occasional inadvertant undereat because you were sick that day and just couldn't stomach food (or something similar), but intentionally doing it is a sign of problems to come. Please do not ever feel that you 'need' to eat less than 1200 calories in a day.
