Disappointed?? All right then...whatcha gonna do about it!
Hey y'all...*wave*
I've had a horrible attitude the last couple of days because I've so disappointed in my numbers. And yeah...they do make a difference. I'm sorry, but we are here to see that number go down. Not go up or stay the same week after week when we're working our tails off.
Ok so enough of that whiny baby talk...I'm gonna attack this thing and keep at it until I'm successful. “Jesus said to him, “If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.” Mark 9:23
So I'm going to try something new. Everytime something doesn't work, I'm going to do more research and find something that will. What I've been reading lately says that everybody's body is different. We have different metabolisms, different genes, different body types. What works for you might not work for me...and vice versa.
Are you disappointed? Need some new ideas? Let's help each other out. Post your challenges here...and then in the same post, put down what your going to try next. Later...after you put in a decent effort...let us know if it worked! Who knows...maybe my solution will work for you. Or maybe yours will help me out too. Can't hurt to try right? ![]()

I've been exercising the same way for the last two months. I get on the bike and I burn 400-500 calories for five nights in a row.
I understand now that changing your cardio routine up is better because then your body doesn't get used to it and it will keep burning different parts. So I'm going to change my routine and see what happens. I did it for the first time tonight and I gotta say I feel like I worked myself so much harder. I'll keep doing this for awhile and see what happens!
A really big difference for me has been strength training. I joined Curves and since November, I've lost almost 30 lbs. You really have to make your resting metabolism better, and you need to do that with more muscles. I really enjoy working out there. It's only women, and believe me, it's not just young, skinny women. My hubby is trying to lose weight too, and can't because he just sits on his butt when he comes home from sitting on his butt all day! Even if I'm so tired I can't see straight, I feel great when I come home from working out at Curves. Hope this helps, keep it up, even if you don't lose a lot of weight, eating better and exercising is going to be good for you!!!!
Cindy :-)
Hi Cindy! Good job on 30 pounds!! That's fantastic. ![]()
You know, I tried Curves. I didn't care for the system though I can see how it would be good since it works so many different parts in one session. Makes sense about the resting metabolism. I'm looking forward to doing more strength training as I go.
Is there anything that you've been frustrated about in regards to your weight loss journey? What did you do about it?
I hardly know where to start. I started here over a year ago with a little less than 10 pounds that I still wanted to lose (had crept back on over about a year and a half --138 from 127 or so.) That's where I am now, around 138.
Last spring I started going to the gym three times a week and logging my cals somewhat. Wasn't religious about putting them down but I did get a better idea of portion size and food value. I was about 130 by Thanksgiving. I pretty much didn't worry about it over the holidays and gained a not too unexpected 5 or 6 pounds by New Years. At that point I started counting very accurately and eating around 1300 to 1500 calories a day. I didn't go to the gym or even do the almost daily 4 miles of walking to my job and back over the winter. I gained more.
It really does feel like a losing (no pun intended) battle. I didn't go nuts over the holidays and was actually pretty good after Jan. and yet here I am again.
I'm now walking again, trying to eat 1200 to 1300 average (I've got to get SERIOUS about portion control to do it!), and I want to add daily crunches, push-ups, and some dumb bell work. I really think my almost 50 year old metabolism is tanked. I need to get moving and build some muscle. I think. ![]()

Hi Chris...*wave*
As you probably know, walking is one of the best things you can do. It's low impact but will help you get/stay in shape. I love to go for a walk in the park! Hardly know your exercising...just put on the iPod and get after it. :)
Portion control is so hard when what your eating tastes SO good! But I know that's helped me alot. I never thought of myself as a big eater but when I started looking at labels and portions I realized why I've gained this weight.
Remember...muscle weighs more than fat. So if you start doing a lot of weight training don't get frustrated...go by your measurements instead of the scale.
I want to start doing sit ups every night too...and start stretching more to keep/regain my flexibility. As we get older we lose some of that. But its so easy to get it back...just need to be consistant with it. 50 is still young! Don't think you can't do something because of your age. You can. It just might take a little more effort than when you were 30 is all.
Being healthy is what is important. If your eating right and exercising then your ahead of the game in my opinion.
Your game plan sounds great to me! Hope it works for you.
Woo hoo for your loss!

I joined Curves too, back in August '07. I worked out for four months and gained 7 pounds. I know the whole muscle weighs more thing, and I did lose about 10-15 inches overall. But, I got bored with the circuit. I also find the curves I do go to is lacking in motivational staff. I went in yesterday and neither girl there talked to me at all (not even hi). I'm a member until August '08 and I think I'll switch to a gym then. I'll bust my butt at curves until then though and lose all those inches to muscle and hopefully with summer cardio lose the pounds too.
Glad it works for someone!
Oh lord,
if anyones in need of motivation it me ... i don't have much to lose tbh what i really need is toning im the perfect example of skinny FAT.
My whole family thinks im compleatly insane i just get the 3rd degree about how skinny i am already and to a degree i know they are right but i also know my mum's wrong when she waffles on at me about the dangers of body building and that she's concerned im anorexic .... geeze ive been dieting 3 weeks and apparently i already have an ED.
Im a proffessional dancer and i had an accident a few months ago, for a shoulder/chest injury that required surgery in that time i lost alot of muscle and gained alot of fat .. its easy to say you'll fix it when your fit but as someone who has NEVER dieted before im finding it harder than i thought.
i need to shift the fat and gain muscle... get my body fat rating down because right now its waaaaaay to high for a dancer who dances practically naked, its really not an attractive look and though im concious some people would kill to be my weight i have a dancing career and im currently concidered too fat to be employable and moneys getting tight.
I joined the site 3 weeks ago and i know im way to early to be concidered on a plateu but in 3 weeks ive gained wiegth not lost?? im eating clean, doing wieght training and cardi and im on a healthy calorie deficit but still the scales dorment me by gonig up not down.
So theres me .. fed up and wanting to quit and watch my career go down the drain after just 3 weeks god help me after 3 months!!

Ok - I am at my wits end. This is my first time posting but I am so frustrated. I have about 10 lbs to lose and started a "boot camp" program 4 weeks ago - a mixture of strength and cardio 3 times a week, 1 hour each. I have also done one extra day of jogging a week - about 20 minutes. I have been counting everything - cals, fat grams, etc and eat about 1200 - 1500 a day. I have not lost a lb nor an inch in the last 4 weeks and I really do not understand it!!
Any help would be appreciated!
I don't know about your boot camp, but the boot camp program at my gym is very very hard and you burn a sh*tload of calories. If I were you, I'd up my calories on the days you do that bootcamp class.
I recently read something that might be helpful to you. It's something I'm trying and I can definately tell a difference in my work outs. I have to FORCE myself to do it...cause it's hard. But I feel as if I've done more when I've finished. It's called interval training. Ever hear of it? Here's the bit I read and a link to a website that will tell you more.
Something from Chantel Hobbs website that might help you in your fitness routine.
Not eveyday needs to be the workout of your life...as long as you make it happen.
Especially for days when you are in a pinch, interval training is a key! This week, try this interval for one of your cardio sessions-
30 minute interval (you can do this with any choice of cardio) The level of intensity is based on a scale of 1-10
- 5 min warm-up-To Level 5
- 5 min at a level 6
- 5 min at a level 7
- 2 min at a level 8
- 3 min at a level 6
- 1 min at a level 9
- 4 min full recovery
This session can be done well with a heart rate monitor-
- Level 5 is 65% of your max
- Level 6 is 75%
- Level 7 is 80%
- Level 8 is 85 %
- Level 9 is 92
Remember: Interval training is awesome for your metabolism!
Here's a website I found on interval training if you'd like to get some more information about it. Click Here!
Hi there - I have done interval training in the past on my treadmill but have not done it since I am doing the bootcamp. It may not be a bad time to try it again when I do my cardio workout! Thanks!
Hope it works for you swills!
I'm dissapointed because I did my weigh in today, and I haven't lost any weight at all this week. OK, so I haven't gained any either, but I was hoping to go down at least one pound :(.
SO, here's what I'm gonna do about it!
*Drop whole milk and substitute it with soy.
*NO SNACKING unless it's necessary (eg. I'm at work and I only have a 15 min break at a weird time)
*No cheeky little treats - butter, biscuits, noodles, ff chese....all gone :(
*Excercising much more
Hopefully this will get me on track again...
Yay! A game plan! You can do it biscuit!
Just keep pushin forward.
Woo! Yeah! hahaha Well, I'm contemplating doing some excercise this morning but maybe it'll make me too tired for work. I think maybe I'll wait til I get home.
I hope this enthusiasm stays!
hey ladies, I guess I just joined today. I've been trying to loose weight since I had my second son...and my body really likes to be about 140, when I was a 118 before. I lost all the weight from baby #2 but still have the weight from #1. It's frustrating because I'll eat really good for weeks and loose like 2 lbs, but gain it right back plus some. I have been eating better, and now I'm starting portion control. I guess I'm only workingout twice a week. Anyways, I have to bust my butt and make myself go to the gym and run more. I signed myself up for a 5k in septemtber with my Dad, SO I have to at least get in better shape so I don't leave him hanging. That's a good motivation right?! hehe. Good luck to all of us!
