Disappointed in Myself
Yesterday I consumed two days worth of calories in one day. I was hung over and let it be my excuse to eat everything in the house. I'm disappointed in myself and really upset about it. Best would be to let it go and move forward but I can't. I had been doing so well, being really good and then............ I want to stop doing that, having those days, and am starting to really realize how many calories are involved in drinking (not just talking about the alcohol itself) and how it usually leads to over eating for me. I feel icky, awful and gross. I just want to feel great again.
:(
It's a very rare person that never makes a mistake. (And perfect people are very, very boring) If you're on a reduced calorie diet in order to lose weight 'two days worth of calories' probably only gets you to a maintenance level.... so it's not the end of the world.
Dwelling on mistakes isn't all that constructive. But if you look at what happened rationally & understand where it started to go wrong (the drinking session) then you can make a conscious decision to do things differently next time around. Then a mistake becomes a learning experience and that's never a bad thing. Alcohol does have a multi-whammy effect... lots of calories, removes inhibitions/impairs judgement, improves appetite, crashes blood-sugars the next day, damages the liver.... If you can rein it in and not binge-drink you're doing yourself a lot of favours.
For now, it'll take some time for the alcohol to leave your system. Think about your food for the day and include lots and lots of fluids, fresh nutritious foods, and some snazzy flavours so that you can taste it even with a woolly tongue. Don't slash the calories.... you'll need a little extra energy to overcome the hangover.
You'll feel a lot better in the morning.

i have the same problem!! whenever i'm hung over i tend to jsut go crazy on all the foods i want to eat. i'll be the first to admit i use a hangover as an excuse to eat junk b/c that's all i want when im hungover! whenever i am, i try to limit my hangover cravings to just one meal that im craving...like a burger and fries and then eat better teh rest of the day....but i do have a problem with munching on stuff throughout the day....thank goodness im not hungover all the time!! LOL, for multiple reasons!
Don't worry, I do it once a week! And I'm still losing 1.4 pounds a week!!
Is it possible to give up drinking until you reach your goal weight, or at least just have 1 or 2 drinks every now and then but not overdo it? I know you can't go back in time and change yesterday, but you can commit to changing the habit.
I can really, really relate to this because I was a huge drinker for many years -meaning 8 or 9 beers at a time, at least once a week. I decided to change my health and I can count the number of drinks I've had this month on one hand. Not only do I eat less because of it, I feel 200% better.. it's unbelievable the difference it makes not having those terrible hungover days.
I don't know how old you are and if you're ready to stop, but overindulging in alcohol is a pretty big problem when it comes to weight loss..
This really opened my eyes to what I was doing to my body:

every day is a new chance to start fresh and do it right... we all have our dayss
i have a real hard time when i have alcohol around...i work out first and have a beer as my treat so i feel good about my day and still get my beer
drinking and snacking is a problem because all your will power is gone and you want to eat salty snacky crapfood
both the alcohol and the salt will show up as water retention over the next couple of days for me NEVER FAILS even if i only have alcohol
Let me tell you.. i know how you feel.. thats how i have put all of my weight on.. its because i get drunk, and then the next day... i over-eat in an attempt to dull the hangover that is ruining my day.. to no avail.
The best thing to do, is really dont let yourself get THAT drunk. Just be aware of how you are feeling while your drinking.... and when you feel yourself getting to that point of no return....Stop and drink some water!!! lol

Each of you has given me something to think about. All different and all valid points. Thank you. I appreciate the support. I should be a little more careful, take a little more control and watch how much (alcohol) I'm putting into my system. I'm not a huge drinker but sometimes, there are just those nights you want to go out and get lost in it all. Perhaps not the best but for me, I need it once in a while. Although I know how awful the next day always is. I'm going to try and scale back and not get to the point of "too many" drinks.
And if I do, I'm going to forgive myself, go easy on myself and not punish myself more the next day--which inevitably turns into my eating more.
Baby steps I guess....
Before you started your new lifestyle, how many days like yesterday did you have? How many do you have now?
When I started here I would binge daily. Then it became weekly and finally it is about once a month.
You are making progress, learning new things and getting healthier everyday. Think of yesterday as a learning experience and the next time you drink remember that day and what happened. Make a plan and maybe the next time will have a different outcome.
