Disappointed in myself

Quote  |  Reply

Normally I have one day a week where I go up to my calorie limit but after I did that this week (monday), I couldn't stop myself going up to the limit on tuesday or wednesday either. I was on the right track today but I just ate a huge bowl of spaghetti and I'm 400 calories over my limit today and probably will eat even more before the day is over!

I keep telling myself its no big deal, just get back in to it tomorrow but it's so hard! I went 1000 over my limit a few weeks ago as well. It's a big deal when you're only losing 1/2 a lb a week and I really want to meet my target by August when I go on holiday.

I was thinking of getting an elliptical, can anyone advise me how often I should use it when I first get it.etc? as I'm not used to exercise apart from walking. thanks.

I am a huge fan of the elliptical! The only reason why I joined a gym is so I can be on that machine all the time. I think with all types of exercise start off slow if you are not use to regular exercise and in time you will feel more comfortable working harder and harder.

Don't worry about exceeding your calorie limit...sometimes I go wild, feel gross, awful and I end up being angry at myself because now I weigh more just cause one day I let myself slip. But I noticed that my "binge" days became less and less frequent over time....I use to go crazy and just indulge once a week..then once every two weeks and once every three week and since my last binge a long time ago I haven't feel the need to break down the way I use to. So don't stress out about it, and believe me it is hard getting back on track when you ate what you wanted to the day before! But don't stress out it will all work out in the end.

Shaikha, your words are inspiring!  I'm trying to get on track as well. :-)

Evemarie good luck!  Lets get back on the wagon together. :-)

I don't want to be too personal....but is your time of month coming? Because about a week before I start, I eat like a horse!! I beat myself up and say I'll do better tomorrow...um yeah....for at least a week, I played this game with myself.  Then once I started, I was okay to stay in my calorie range...I no longer have the urge to eat every friggin minute.  I started keeping a log of when I started and when the constant hunger would hit. It can hit anywhere from 5-10 days before I start. Maybe that's something you should look into....

for me it is like clockwork, 11 days before.  Then I'm ok.  But since I'm only a month and a half into this I can't figure out how to quit.  I ate like a horse today (including cookies.) I'm still under my 1450 but barely and I still need dinner.  AND I feel like I'm starving to death.  And I just ate. *sigh*  I'll bet that has a lot to do with you too Evamaria

Not to sound like an "echo", but I have to agree with the other ladies here.  I just came off a week long eating binge.  I was constantly over my suggested calorie intake.  I'm sure it was due to TOM.

I've found that preparing meals with fish or chicken help get your required protein, and they keep the calories down.  I try to also make lots of steamed vegetables.  They tend to make me feel like I'm having a really good meal, they fill me up, but they don't "bust the bank" as far as adding up a lot of calories.

Good luck!

I find that I binge when I don't have all the right foods in the house.  I live with my husband and teenage daughter, and although they could both use to lose a few pounds, neither is on a diet right now, so we have lots of different junk foods -- cookies, chips, popcorn, etc.   Plus I cook for them so I end up eating the same meals.

However, when I am sure to have all the foods I need to eat, and I try to eat my breakfast separately and start the day with oatmeal, I find I eat better all day, and stick to my own foods.   The only times this doesn't work is if I run out of my fruits, veggies, salads, etc.  Since I am used to eating 5-6 x a day, I end up binging on whatever is in the house.

My advise is to not beat yourself up -- and try to make intelligent choices every day -- even if you eat the wrong thing this morning, it doesn't mean you have to continue eating the wrong thing all day -- you can break the cycle at any time during the day.

Evemarie- the fact that you posted this shows that you are on the right track!  Renew your commitment to your motivation.  Or, find a new one.  I can tell you're a driven and goal oriented person.  You CAN be in control and you WILL win the war, even if you lose a couple battles along the way.  I have faith in you!  Love, Light & Energy!
