Disappointed: When will I see smaller pants!!??
So, I have been on a diet for about two and a half weeks. I did weight 130 lbs and I’m 5’6’’ (about). I eat 1000 to 1200 cal per day unless I exercise then I eat what I work off too. I haven’t weighed myself again because I don’t have an accurate scale (I’ll know Oct. 24th when I go to the doctor). The scale at the gym says 124 but I don’t believe it… I think that one is always off.
Anyway, I thought I was starting to look a little slimmer but I was so upset today when I went jean shopping. As I gathered six pairs of size 2-4 pants I walked proudly into the fitting room only to find myself bulging out of all of them! Before my diet I wavered between a size 4 and six pants I thought for sure now I would fit a size 4!! Instead I had to get another size 6.
When will I start to see smaller pants sizes!!! : (
Yeah I'd like to know the same thing! At the end of July when I started getting serious about exercising I weighed 218 lbs at 6 feet tall. Now I'm down to 205 but I don't see where it has come off and my pants don't seem loose at all.
I think depending on how slim you are (or are not) already has something to do with this. If, when you start to lose weight you are just eating healthier, and maybe not exercising the weight does come off, it might not be very noticeable, though, unless you've had significant weight loss. Sometimes our bodies redistribute our fat too, so that maybe, where it was before it's traveling to a site where more fat is being burned off...(total educated guess here)..maybe like your hips...mine does that..irritates the crap outta me! I guess (and this is personal experience) when you start working out regularly, like say, maybe every other day, you will notice slimming. It seems like it takes a lot of sweating to do this! No pain no gain...*chuckles*...it's true though, at least for me anyways. Laterdazy ; I would recommend getting at least 1200 calories daily (1500 for men), recommended by this site, whether your exercising or not! Failure to do so only slows down your metabolism, therefore hampering weight loss! If you eat your 1200 and do at least a 30 minute workout each day, it will make your deficit (calories burned vs. calories consumed) greater. I aim for for a deficit of at least 500 to kick start the metabolism. And, realistically, you can't expect 5 pounds to make you go down a whole pant size! I mean, unless your small built already! I usually have to lose around 10 pounds or so to start to notice my current size getting loose. Anyways...those are my best views on it as yet. I've been a size 6 jean for 10 months now, and I'm currently 130 btw (5'3'') I started at 136, and maybe by the time I hit 125 I might be able to get into a 4, if I'm lucky. The problem is my hips & thighs....it's getting the 4's past that point on the body that's the issue, my waist is pretty trim *uggh*! Anyways, I hope I've helped...
I almost never have time to work out though!
is 200 cal. really that big of a difference? I just can't imagine eating 1200 cals. and losing weight! Will I still lose it if I can't work out daily??
And thanks for the other info... I guess i will have to wait to fit into those size 4 pants
...
Good luck stillworkingonit we're in the same boat!!
I've lost 22 lbs so far and am still waiting to notice my clothes fitting any less snuggly. The only real difference I have seen is that my wedding band fits a little looser.
It takes about 20lbs. for me to drop a size. I seem to lose from the top down, too, so my shirts/bras get big on me sooner than I drop a pants size. It's different for everyone..I've heard some say they drop sizes every 5lbs. and I believe I read one post where someone said they could still wear the same size jeans after losing 40lbs. I guess it depends on where/how it's distributed on the body.
i can understand why you'd feel disappointed. but two and half weeks isn't very long for a 'diet'. give it as little as 4 to 6 weeks and you will def. see some sort of change if you're working out and eating right.
at your height, it should take too much weight loss before you see a change.
what is your waist in inches?
Hi,
Your body loses fat from all over at pretty much the same time so you will notice the effects more dramatically on different body parts, depending how much fat there is there to lose. Unfortunately the area around the thighs, bum and tum are often fat rich so reduction here, and smaller jeans, may take time to achieve- particularly for girls as this is where the body naturally stores the most fat! I've not changed general dress size for a couple of months now but like saintly a couple of my rings no longer fit and I had to get 2 links taken out of my watch because it was too big recently! Also if you're a girl water retention can make it take longer to fit in smaller trousers so make sure you drink plently of water everyday and avoid too much salt or alcohol.
Stick with it, you will see results and you should take the advice about ensuring you get atleast 1200cals a day plus eat back any you work off. I've recently had to up to 1800 cals a day to get my weight loss moving again and am slowly coming down again.
Good luck!
I think I'm a 27'' waist but my hips are more like 37''.
I'm in my 11th week of eating properly and have lost a total of 19-22 pounds (depending on the day) which is 1/3 of what I need to lose. I must have really been poured into those size 18 pants because I still cannot fit into a 16. Never the less, I can see a difference all over from face to feet and everything in between.
it hasnt been long at all...it seems like you are losing at least. you cant expect to go down THAT qickly....give it some more time :)
Laterdazy: here's a scenario for ya. My husband is also doing this calorie counting site with me. He's prone to NOT getting his recommended 1500 cal a day and he almost NEVER works out. On the days I remind him (cuz he's low) to eat to get his 1500, he's lost a few extra ounces at least by the next morning! He even ate late last night to make sure he did this and now he's lower than he's been yet! Now, I wouldn't recommend eating late, per say, on a regular basis, but it seems to me like there is a definite working formula here. You body goes into "starvation mode" when you don't put enough into it, even on the days you don't work out. I work out mostly because I have this hard core goal I want to get to, and I want it YESTERDAY! But I know these things take time...so do it healthy and take your time, eat more healthy snacks during the day more often, and you'll probably easily reach your goals! Go to it, you can do it :) Good luck!
Laterdazy, maybe you are meant to be a 6? I'm an "old lady" in the group and really have a difficult time understanding the size 0-8 mindset of the younger generation. Everyone carries their weight differently and 130 on a 5'6 frame is very reasonable. At 130 I would probably be considered thin by many but would probably be in a size 12 since I'm pretty big boned. Even when 130, I wore a size 8 ring and usually had to have links added to bracelets in order for it to fit.
Well, we're all different and Viva la Difference. 2.5 weeks is not a long time. Be patient.
I tend to lose weight evenly all over my body and I find it takes about ten pounds to lose a pant size.
Usually the first ten pound is just water. The body has a natural tendancy to hold on to water when we don't drink the proper amounts. When you start exercising and drop those first ten pounds and continue to get your daily intake of water...you lose excess water. How much water do you drink daily?
For a while I had this same worry....then I talked to my doctor about it, and she helped me realize something very important:
I'm 5'7.5", 129 lbs, size 6.
I could lose ten more pounds and STILL be a size 6, because of my bones. You simply can't change your bone structure! I've removed all (or MOST) of the fat from my body, but the fact remains that my hip bones make me a 6. I would never be able to fit in a size 4 without breaking my hips!
I think this is something that just doesn't occur to most people when losing weight, it certainly didn't occur to me til it was pointed out!
It took 20 pounds lost before I dropped from a size 12 to a 10. I went to the mall recently to try on a size 8 (i knew it wouldn't fit, but I figure i could see how close I was and was planning on buying it as incentive). I couldn't even pull them up halfway, I was baffled and so sad. I mean, I fit perfectly fine into a 10, so I figured I could at least get into an 8 (even if it meant not zipping up).
So...I know how you feel...but don't get discouraged though. It just takes a lot of time. A lot more time than most of us are willing to wait!
It took me 20 pounds before I went from a "solid" 10 to a "sometimes 10, sometimes 8". 2 and a half weeks of dieting is not gonna do it for you.
I also agree with what previous posters have said about bone structure. There's no physical way I could ever be a size 2--my hip bones just wouldn't fit! Another thing related to bone size is your actual weight goal--remember that your bones weigh a lot, and bigger bones weigh more than little bones. So if you have ankle bones the size of an elephant (like me, I've never been able to wear ankle bracelets for this reason!), you'll never be able to get down to 105 pounds.
But look on the bright side--even though my ankles are huge, I never twist or sprain them--they're strong as hell!
Hey there,
it all depends on your body and where you are loosing the weight and as mentioned above bone structure makes a difference too.
Keep the good work and you'll be in size 4s in no time.
You may have lost mostly water weight. Although if you are only eating 1000-1200 calories a day, especially if you are not getting enough protein and not doing any strength training, you can lose muscle instead of fat. For example if you lost 6lb in 2 1/2 weeks, but only 2lb was fat loss and the rest was water/muscle loss, you may not see much change in inches. But if you lost 5lb of fat and only 1b of muscle/water, you might lose an inch.
With a 27 inch waist and 37 inch hips, you are only an inch away from a size 4. Just make sure you are eating enough calories, especially from protein and if you aren't already doing strength training, I would recommend incorporating this into your workout schedule.

I need help. I weigh 151 and have been on every diet possible. Weight Wathers, LA Weight, Medical Weight Loss Clinic, Fat Free, Low Carb. I have not lost any more than 5 lbs. in the last 6 years. I tried this web site and have tried this now since 10-3-07. I eat an average of 1,200 calories per day, some days less, some days more. I was told by some that I don't eat enough. I have gone from 150 lbs. on 10-3-07 to 151 lbs. on 10-16-07. I don't seem to lose weight no matter what I do. I need professional help I think. Any suggestions?
