Disappointing Weigh-In this morning. :(

Quote  |  Reply

So, I have been so careful and not cheating on my diet.  Portion control, low carbs, calorie documentation, cardio 4-5 times/week plus 2 nights of weights for the past 5 1/2 weeks.  I've been losing steadily; then; this morning I am up 1.2 pounds.

I know in my heart of hearts this could be a water thing, or, a hormone thing-  it is definitlely not 3500 calories of foods consumed to make me gain a whole pound-  but still; it really burns when you try so hard and then get on the scale to see an increase and have to LOG it in your chart.

I only weigh myself on Fridays, since I have issues with weighing myself everyday (i can't run my life by a number).....

Not even a rant; it just makes me sad; that when you try so hard -  SO HARD - this weight still isn't coming off.  Cry

Hopefully next Friday's weigh-in will be better.....

first of all, dont let this morning's disappointment ruin your efforts today! you've been working hard and eventually it will pay off!

just curious, have you ever tried weighing yourself everyday? i get up each morning, use the bathroom & hop on the scale. i like it for a few reasons.. first of all, you mentioned you dont want to live your life according to the number - but for me, weighing in every day actually makes the number less important. meaning, i think if i limited myself to just one weigh in per wk, i would build it up so much & invest so much in seeing that number go down each week  and feel devistated (like you do today) if there wasnt a significant difference (or worse). since i do it every day i basically know what to expect - it's easier to track changes and see patterns (water weight, that time of the month, etc) - and no matter what the scale says i use it as motivation - if it's a up a bit that day i'll run for longer or drink more water, whatever - if it's down i start the day off in a fabulous mood! it might be worth a try...

Hey there, don't get discouraged! 1.2 lbs is more than likely just water weight. I take a bottle of water (the really big ones) and keep reusing it by filling it with filtered water (for recycling purposes) Drink at least ONE of those big bottles of water per day, more if you can. You'll find that you weight will start to even out.

Another possibility is that you're gaining muscle mass and replacing that fat weight with muscle weight (which weighs more than fat) So try using a tape measure to track your progress as well. I've lost about 18-20 lbs and I worked SO much harder than that! I taped myself, and found out that I actually lost about 30 INCHES off my body! So even though my scale wasn't really moving the way I wanted, my inches definitely were coming off.

Lastly, don't get discouraged! Just keep at it! You can do this! Eating healthy and Exercising is the ONLY way to lose weight effectively, so you're on the right track. I'm betting money that your body is dehydrated and retaining water.

I'm going to agree here. I weigh myself every day and log it every day. It's best to find out if something you ate/drank the day before effected you negatively (or positively!) I use my scale every morning, right when I get up with an empty bladder so I can get my body's "true" weight. (which is your weight before consuming any foods or liquids) That's also the only way to accurately calculate your BMI (which everything else is calculated from).

i'm up a pound this week.

*shakes it off*

next week is brand new!

thank you ladies-  you are both right-  I am going to start weighing myself every day becuase I can't deal with the emotional roller coaster in seeing that number ONCE A WEEK and expect it to be down.  I'm going to water myself silly (not overly though) and see if that makes a difference.

I had low-salt ham last night for dinner-  i'm thinking it may not have been as low sodium as I thought; which could explain for retention.  And I know that I've been using heavier weights to increase my toning; so that really could be another reason why I am slightly up.

But seeing an increase in the one day I give myself to weigh in stinks; so I'm going to go back every day.

I did my measurements this morning; and there is a difference.  Not to mention that this week I wore a dress that I bought 2 years ago before I had my daughter 10 months ago.  So, I'd say that is progress.

Thanks for your support.  It really does help.  I love this site!!

whew, Ham is NEVER as low sodium as it says it is. I always retain water after eating ham/bacon, sausage, anything like that.

Great job on the dress!!! see? small victories. This is a marathon, not a sprint! you'll reach your goals as long as you keep moving forward.

here are 2 quotes that always keep me motivated:

"It does not matter how slowly you go so long as you do not stop." - Confucius

"Our greatest glory consists not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall." - Oliver Goldsmith

It's probably just a fluke,  Low sodium sometimes is only lower by a 100 or so. Hydrate and log your real weigh in tomorrow :-)

Onother reason could also be that it might be that time of the month, I always way up to three pounds more during that time which will disappear the day you get your period.

Well, Since you are lifting weights, you are probally losing inches instead of pounds.  Inches are better to lose sometimes because you are gaining muscle mass which increases your Matablolism.

ugh, I think it was water retention.  I have 6 more days until TTOM.  So, I was up a whole WHOPPING pound on Saturday morning; then I didn't eat any salt yesterday AT all and was DOWN the pound this morning; but still as low as I was two fridays ago and I haven't cheated at all.  So; I'm going to up my water this week and cut out salty foods to see if I can get back on track scale wise.  Clothing wise I look like a hot mamma today; so this battle with the scale.....is comical at this point.  we'll see how it goes.  OK so the moral of this story is....

Portion control + healthcy carbs + 1300 cals/day + cardio 4 times a week = Up a pound

So boring food now becoming even more tasteless....what I have to do to lose weight!!!!

Maybe you should go see a weight loss doctor so they can give you a personalized plan based on your DNA.  I am going to try the insulin resistant diet (since diabeties runs in my family) and if that dosen't work, then I will got see the weight loss doctor as my last resort.

I had a little bit of a disappointing weigh in this morning.  I didn't gain any but I didn't lose any.  I was 197 last week and 197 this week but I realized this morning that I didn't pay attention to what came after the decimal.

This post gave me the idea of weighing myself everyday though.  I get excited for my weekly weigh ins but you brought up good points in this post about how that can be bad.

Please don't worry & just determine to keep at it. I promise it will pay off.

I started this June 1 & on June 8 had lost 5.5 pounds. I was so happy. Then last Monday, June 15, i was up a half a pound. i was SO upset b/c i'd been working SO hard. But guess what? Today...my 4th weigh-in... i lost 2 pounds! YES!
And you know...next week, will be that time of the month. And i KNOW i'll probably be up five whole pounds, b/c i'm always gaining a lot on my period. It will be disappointing even KNOWING that is what it is. But i will just have to make a decision that it will be okay. B/c that first weigh-in in July will be a good one!:)

It eventually pays off. It just SUCKS SO BAD when the scale is up on your weigh-in day. But don't worry. You are doing all you can do. If you keep at it & don't give up, there is nothing the scale can do, but go down!:)

Last Friday I was DEVASTATED when I saw that jump and knew I was working so hard.  At least weighing yourself evey day you expect some sort of flucuation and don't hype yourself up for a loss and not get one on your ONE WEIGH IN FOR THE WEEK!!!

and mrsmel-- YAY!!!  keep it up!!!

all that water yesterday and a good cardio workout-  dopped a pound since yesterday so it HAD to be fluid.  I'm going to keep hydrating.  YAY!
