So i've been dieting since like feburary of last year. I found out what calories were in janurary. I counted 1200 each day, or tried to at least. Obviously, im using this site. Yesterday, i found out that there had too be a 500 calorie difference in your calories consumed and burned. Wow... all those months for nothing! i could have ate at least 400 calories more to keep my weight! eeek im super depressed!

You do NOT have to have a 500 calorie deficit per day to lose weight.  If you want to lose a pound a week, then yes.  If you have a 100 calorie deficit each day, you'd lose a pound a month or 12 pounds in a year.  It works the exact opposite too.  100 calories too much everyday and that's 12 pounds added in a year.

ok..you're saying that even though I eat about 1900 calories a day in order to lose a pound a week I have to burn 2400 calories a day. Somehow though I sometimes end up having a defecit of 800 to 1000 calories a day. Could that cause me not to lose weight cause I havnt' seen a difference?

Well, for an example(looked it up on about.com)

For me, i burn 1400 calories a day by myself (without working out)

When i do work out i add about 400 calories.

1400+400=1800

I need to consume 1800 calories to maintain my weight if i work out.

Although, im dieting.... i subtract 500 to loose 2 pounds a week.

1800-500=1300

Consume 1300 calories consumed. and 400 burned!

I think 800 to 1000 calories is a BIG difference and you should just try 500 cause you are a male and guys loose weight easier
