Discovery Health's National Body Challenge (for those without a gym)

Quote  |  Reply

I just saw this commercial about Discovery Health offering 8 weeks free to Bally's, *which I'm about to do, I just printed out the coupon*... You just got to their website, discoveryhealth.com and sign up for their National Body Challenge (I decided not to go through with it, because I think I can go without the website telling my exactly what to eat, but it might be good for some people!)

I don't know if this promotion with Bally's is usual, but if is usual, I've never seen it! I can't wait to try it out... Just thought I'd spread the information :)

Just an fyi - get ready for non stop calls from Bally's hounding you to become a permanent member.  They seriously harassed me for like 2 straight months after I signed up for a free workout so I could check it out.

Eek... I would think that they would know that's counter-productive to harass people after trying their gym...

Luckily I'm about to get a new phone number anyways, so now would be the perfect time for me to give them my information...

Thanks for the info though :)

My company has a standing deal with Bally's.  It turns out to be no better than what I was getting from Gold's without a special deal.  When I went in to Bally's, which is closer to the office than Gold's, I was offered better deals.  These deals involved signing multi-year contracts. I passed.

Looks like Bally's manipulates the fine print to make it look like a good deal then (their marketing is pretty convincing until you hear actual customer's opinions about the gym), I've always hated how sneaky gyms are, which is why I never got full membership to one haha...

I probably won't be becoming a permanent member, I'm just going to take advantage of the 8 weeks and then take what I learned and bring it to the YMCA, which I already have a membership there...

This is why I love college! I get to use their gym for free... kinda. There's a sneaky little fee everybody has to pay with tuition that counts as their "recreation fee".
If that is the only gym you can use then I'd do it.  I had a pretty inexpensive membership there years ago, but when it came time for me to stop the membership (my time was up and everything on the contract) they kept billing me.

I don't remember the specifiics, but it was like  having a part-time job trying to get these guys off my a$$.  They were taking the money out of my account automatically.  I don't remember how I resolved it with them. I know I wrote a letter and was on the phone many time.  I had to threaten them, but I don't remember what with.

I finally got a letter from them that they corrected the problem, but my phone number and address was the same for a few years after that and they always wanted me back.

They were close to my work but not my house. when I quit my job I decided I was done with them and joined a gym close to home that had better childcare for my toddler.

I'd go there again if it was close to my house and all I could afford.  I can deal with the telemarketers.

Oh, they did refund the money they took.  So at least they did that.

So should I take Discovery Health up on the eight weeks free membership? Or just leave it be and keep on walking? I was tempted, but Bally is a bit far away from our apartment and I don't really want to be harrassed all year long about paying up! We really can't afford luxuries like a gym membership so I don't have one... actually I've never been to a gym in my life (another reason I'm hesitatant about it!)

I had a great workout today... I walked a mile in 15 minutes then walked around the exercise track and JOGGED a whole lap (in pieces... I could only do half a lap before it felt like my legs were going to fall off! Then I did another quarter, and then I finished the lap... it's only a quarter mile but I'm pretty sure it was easier than it was last time I tried - after my jog I turned around and walked another mile and a half to get home!
