Disillusioned about 30 Day Shred
I know it's silly, but I've become disillusioned by the Shred. I've been doing it for 6 days on level 1, and I've been expecting miracle results. Now they've not come, I'm thinking 'Will it work on me?'... I know, eventually, I'll see weight loss, but when?
Plus, I was hoping it would give me bigger muscles, but all it seems to be doing is shaping the little muscle I do have... Will moving from 3 to 5 kg hand weights do anything for me?
Thanks guys...
Use these tools and you will kick ass. First, do not look at the scale, It simply wants to mess with your head. Write down all your food everyday, record your water. Drink a min of a half gallon. It you do not have results that feel better in two weeks. Example fit a pair of shorts that were slightly too tight or pulled at the pockets. Find a thread of success. If this doesn't happen do my next step.
Eat Salad and chicken 4 times per day for one week. You will feel like crap from the low energy, so drink coffee, sodas or if your are real bad, use a weight loss energy drink or pill. Careful these can be harmful. It will force you to clean out your system.
Go to the gym or run a mile min. each day, make an effort during this one week oh hell. Take a before photo and after photo......This is mandatory and you will feel better. The threat of having to do this program is what has kept me on track for the last 3 weeks. I am not perfect, but if I was I wouldn't be here. We are a team helping each other win a common goal. Let me know if I can be of assistance. best wishes

It takes forever and a day for women to gain muscle. The 30 day shred will double that amount of time because it's flinging around light weights for 25 reps or whatever. Not the best way to build muscle
I think it's a pretty butt kicking work out, don't get me wrong but it's NOT the most efficient way to build muscle. You gotta get yourself some heavy weights (relative to you) and only bust out 8-12 reps which should be almost all you can do at that weight
I second what spiro said.... but also wanna add if your goal is weight loss, then your most important factor is going to be your diet.
Six days really isn't enough time. Although I was doing other activities before and besides 30 Day Shred, I didn't really notice any major results until a month or two after I started exercising. The weight was slowly creeping down, but it just wasn't really noticeable in my clothes for a few weeks. It's been about 14 weeks as of yesterday though (according to my Wii Fit) and I've dropped 18 pounds and have much more endurance and a better degree of strength than I had when I started on this journey.
But at first, it definitely took a while and didn't proceed at any kind of miraculous pace.
I don't know whether or not you've been exercising before starting Shred, but if you haven't done much, then your body is going through a lot of changes -- your hormones may be shifting a bit, your muscles may be retaining more water. Your diet may have changed and that could be causing various fluctuations.
It's a very long-term process, so the trick is to trust and enjoy the process and the results will come.
My question concerning 30 Day Shred (and similar DVD's) is whether or not they would interfere with rest days when starting a heavy lifting program if using the DVD's on a rest day? Or are the small weights just too insignificant for an "anti-rest" affect?
It took about three weeks after I started the Shred before I started to see a real difference in my body. I didn't do it every day because I already have a muscular frame and I didn't want to look a certain way (I won't say the dreaded "b" word before I incur the wrath of the regulars but I do know my body pretty well.)
I've been doing it for the last six months or so on an average of twice to three times a week and together with cardio and my muscles are much, much more visible than they were when I was running only. But, no, my muscles are not "bigger." Thank goodness.

Please DO NOT do this. Eating just salad and chicken will give you no energy for your workouts, and coffee/soda/energy drink are *not* healthy ways to get that energy. Fruit, dairy, whole grains, beans/pulses. Those are healthy ways to get energy. (Chicken and salad are fine; they just shouldn't be your whole diet.) Also, since your goal is to build muscle, running is not the way to go.
Spiro's advice was much better.
I wasn't planning on eating this... It seems like a poor regime, and there is no way I could see myself doing this for the rest of my life, or even one week.
I'm going to start using the 5kg weights, hopefully seeing more results. But I will see the challenge out.
I've been doing the shred for about a month....seven days at each level. After I finished level 3, I started going back and doing level 1 Monday, level 2 Tuesday, etc. Let me tell you it was so refreshing doing Level 1 again - it felt so much easier! So my conclusion had to be that I've acomplished 'something'. I only dropped a few pounds and I don't really notice a major difference in my muscle appearance, but I feel great, and I am definitely stronger.
So I say stick with it!

I wasn't fond of Shred, but Kathy Smith's Build Muscle Shrink Fat has changed my body big time in a pretty short time frame.
