Disturbing experience...

Quote  |  Reply

I had a disturbing experience today while I was walking.  I really like walking because it gives me a chance to relax and enjoy being outdoors.  It's exercise and it gives me a opportunity to reflect on my day.  That being said...

Today I was at the end of my walk almost back at my apartment when a truck with two guys in the back pulls a u-turn and one guy throws a beer can onto the sidewalk.  I haven't seen anyone litter in a long time, and I can't imagine what's going through someone's head when they throw trash out of their moving vehicle.  Anyway, one guy looks at me and goes "sorry!" and the other guy yells "It's just a f**** beer can, shut the f*** up b****!"

What the crap???  I picked it up and brought it home, but I hate stuff like this that pisses me off, hurts my feelings (which I know it shouldn't but I can't help it), and makes me feel uncomfortable walking by myself, which I find irritatingly unfair.

Sorry for the rant, I just can't shake it.

Nice guy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Blow it off.  Civilized people probably won't include this kind of person in their company and it will be his loss.  F***ed up people usually get F***ed over.  Anyway, Karma wins.

i feel you on this,tastytreat:

i take it personal when people litter. It's like people still smoking when they know it causes lung cancer...WAKE UP PEOPLE!!

Sunday morning my son and i went for an early walk, and i found 2 beer cans, right in the middle of the sidewalk.grrrrrrrrrr... i brought them home to recycle too, hell, i make the guys in my garage recycle plastic, paper and cans. the thought of these guys just tossing these everyday items in the trash drives me MAD!! i feel like the mother of 113 men. PIA's!!

that being said, i feel your pain. it sucks that you have to be upset about this. i know i would be hurt/offended as well. not to mention being afraid of the fact that you were alone at the time. I know i wouldnt want to give up walking. it is very theraputic. be safe when you are out there, if you walk in the dark, stay on well lit streets/paths.always keep your cell phone in your hand in case of an emergency, and if you must listen to music, keep one ear out so you can hear your surroundings.

hope this helps... dont dwell on it, and thanks for sticking up for our planet! she needs alll the help she can get right now!

Littering is lame. Those jerks are making beer drinkers look bad. ;-)

But you might invest in a good pepper spray and bring it along with you. Even though I run with my sis, we carry pepper spray.  We consider ourselves as being prepared, not paranoid.

My concealed carry (gun license) instructor told our class about a couple instances where he was able to avoid a potentially dangerous situation with his pepper spray even though he had his gun on him.

What a jerk!

I too get really irritated with people like this.  Why do they have to ruin everyone else's beauty, just because they don't give a rip.  It's a lack of respect to others, but what goes around comes around.  People who are like that never get far in life.

Be mad and then let it go.

I hate it when people litter!

This isn't really littering but it didn't help any -- I was at school walking from the outside classes back to the school, and there was a piece of paper on the ground.  I was going to pick it up when I walked by it but this group of guys in front of me stepped on it and went out of their way to scrape it along under their feet for quite a while.  When they got tired of it they just took a step off of it and left it there, torn up on the ground.  When I got to it, I picked it up and said loudly to my friend "WHEW!  That really took a lot out of me!  No wonder those guys wouldn't pick it up!" =P

I got some looks but who cares!  People are so dumb sometimes!!
That would seriously scare me. I trust NO ONE! The nicest guy on the street can be the one with dead bodies in his basement. I really wanted to start walking/running outside again this summer but stories like that and ones I hear on the news keep me inside doing my DVD's and the treadmill. Also if I was to run it would be early  morning or late evening so either way it will be semi-dark which just enhances the feeling of fear.

Some people are just so self centered they don't consider anyone else.  At least the one guy said he was sorry.  The other just isn't worth your time or energy.

I live near a lake and I cannot tell you how many beer cans, bottles, cardboard boxes, etc. that I have to pick up out of my yard every single weekend.  In the summer its so bad that I've actually considered posting a big sign that says "OUR YARDS ARE NOT YOUR TRASH CANS"

Morrighu, I think that sign is a good idea.  At least the inconsiderate slobs would KNOW they are inconsiderate slobs!

Ugh, that makes me angry. I don't understand how anyone could purposely harm the world that they live in. Let alone, yell and swear at a random stranger! Gosh, some people need a reality check.

Look at it this way: anger and lashing out usually indicate guilt, embarrassment and shame. So, if the guy felt the need to shout abuse when his friend apologized, it's most probably because he is very aware of what people think of him when they witness him doing that. So he bit even before being bitten. Don't take it personally. It's not worth your being upset. Ultimately he is the one who will pay the price. Karma does win in the end...

As a dispatcher for law enforcement here is my advice.

Get a license plate next time and report it.   Maybe if they get the $1000 fine for littering they will be more careful in the future.

Not sure if a big city place would help you much, but if your complaint is not only about the litter... but the manor of driving... you may be surprised that they step up and at least contac the driver!

Then again... you can always be the better person and just pick it up.   Either one works... just don't dwell on it.  There are too many people in this world that could offend us if we allow it.  And that's just a stress in life none of us need... we have our own things to deal with.   :)    Thank you for picking it up though... I wish more people would!

I understand, since I too try to recycle and not litter.  We went out to a sandbar by boat on a Wednesday (my husband took the day off) and there were a couple of boats there with a bunch of college kids.  After they left, we noticed they had left 5-6 cans of beer on the sandbar and most still had beer in them.  So I dumped them out and took them on our boat and put in our recycle bins when I got home.  It is just bad people don't think twice about their actions and the results on the environment.  Recently went scuba diving and found a beer can that a sea urchin had attached to itself (for hiding purposes) and had to remove the can and take back up with me.  Sad when a sea urchin had to use garbage to camouflage itself.

Thanks for posting so I could rant too.
