Ditching The SCALE!

Quote  |  Reply

So last week I finally made the decision to ditch my scale. I couldn't quite bring myself to throw it out or smash it or anything dramatic.  But I moved it out of my bathroom and into a corner of a room that i rarely go in so I don't have to look at it.  Since starting to recover from my ED I've been trying to put on more muscle and get fit but seeing the numbers on the scale go up, even if i know it's muscle, freaks me out.  So i finally came to the decision to stop weighing every week.  I realized that weighing was slowing down my fitness gains, and not helping my self-esteem.  Has anyone had a similar revelation?  And how often do you guys weigh?

Congratulations!  I'm glad to see that there are some women out there that realize there is more to fitness than a number on a scale.  I still use my scale to measure progress, but I place more importance on my body fat percentage than my weight.  My goal is specifically to lose fat, not necessarily lose weight.

Good for you!

I put my scale in the linen closet and only take it out every other Saturday.  I get too discouraged weighing anymore than that...

Good luck with your journey!

I weigh every tuesday but the scale hasnt moved up or down this week so i'm thinking of stopping weighing

i think you get the right decision. keep going and good luck for your recovery

me, too, jessie! I've recently joined Curves and have parked my car and am commuting to work on my bike. I haven't stepped on the scale in a while and just feel happy! Really enjoying my life. I just want to have an active summer and maybe I'll get back on the scale in the fall and see where I end up. The scale was slowing me down!

good luck!

I don't even own a scale.

I actually really don't care what I weigh, as long as I look good and go down in clothes sizes.  I suppose that's how I measure how I'm doing.

For me, being a little taller and hiding my weight pretty well, I always have weighed more than other people, though I look a lot smaller.  So weight doesn't really concern me; rather it's how good I look.

That being said, I was at a friend's house over the weekend and she had a scale.  So I weighed myself.  Turns out I've lost 15 pounds in the past few months (since the last time I weighed myself), and so I was actually pretty happy.

I just couldn't be obsessive about how very small the scale moves on a daily basis.

Congrats on ditching the scale. My scale seems to have a mind of it's own. What counts for me is getting into my favorite pair of jeans. A month ago I couldn't.

It's So great to hear from all these people who don't weigh or aren't obsessed with the scale! i've been so much happier since i put it away and never realized just how much influence that dumb number had on my happiness!  Power to the scale-ditchers! LOL Wink

the scale doesnt make me sad annoys me sometimes when it doesnt move but that motivates me.
