I'll stick to tampons. I don't have to see or smell anything with those.

I have issues with dumping out little cups of blood that have been collecting in my vag, so I stray away from it. I have even more issues with waddling to the sink, washing it out, then shoving it back in.

lol unless you change tampons with your eyes shut you still gotta see it CD!!! hehe
A friend who is using the keeper (similar to diva) swears by it, but I've never had the guts to try one myself. That thing is a lot larger than any tampon applicator!
I use the Instead cups, instead... they more comfortable than pads or tampons (though a little gross to change, in all honesty). You can rinse and reuse them (though the instructions say not to) or you can dispose of them.
Best of all, you can have sex while wearing it!
I loooooooove my Divacup. It takes a few days to get used to, yes, and its not for people who aren't interested in their bodies since you've gotta do some feeling and probing sometimes.
but honestly, I check mine twice a day max, I don't feel it, I don't spend money on disposable plugs that dry you out and pollute the environment, and its nice to get away from the whole "feminine products" industry crap. think me as weird, whatever, but it's neat to see what your body does. tampons and pads make periods look like a huge exodus of lining but you really don't bleed very much. and its not a big deal at all to dump out the contents, wipe a tissue on it and put it back in. i find that less gross than pulling out a bloody, dripping wad of cotton. i think our culture's abhorrence of reproductive organs and natural bodily functions is pretty pathetic.
julia01: its hard at first to figure out if you've got it in right. i do what the instructions say: fold it into a U-shape and just pop it up there. i've found that if its inside you, then its not going to leak. the whole thing about 'making sure there's a seal' isn't necessary. i've never once had a leak that was not a result of me waiting too long. if you search on google you'll find a lot of information about insertion, livejournal is a good place to start.
I go tinkie, grab my toilet paper, clean myself, grab the string, pull, drop, flush, and then after it's done swirling around I turn around to put the lid down and wash my hands.
Pfft. I like blood. I admit that. Just not that blood.
I've been using my DivaCup for 3 years now. It was scary at first (You mean it's supposed to go completely inside my body? And I'm supposed to get it out how??). It took some getting used to, but that passed fairly quickly. The past 3 years have been the cleanest and easiest for me as far as periods go. I barely notice them now. And since using the DivaCup, they seem to be about 2 days shorter.

Why do you think your period is shorter now?
nycgirl: I assume it's from the slight suction of the seal, honestly (you can't feel it). Ha. It encourages everything to come out just a little bit faster.
i used to use "the keeper" and LOVED it. esp bec when you're out and about, you don't have to pack anything extra; and when you travel, you don't have to squeeze any tampon boxes into your suitcase. all the toxins in tampons are just ridiculous. they should be illegal.
it's really not that messy or anything. and BOY, does it save you $! http://www.thekeeper.com
That's...kinda awesome.

I'm all for fornication with menstruation (we call it makin' strawberries and cream or strawberry milkshakes here) but I can't help wondering what it's goingt o be like tugging that thing out while you've got a wad of sperm swimming around up there.
Unless you are married or in a serious long-term relationship where fidelity has been specified explicitly I hope everyone will use condoms anyway, but yeah ...
