Diverticulits

Quote  |  Reply

I just recently had really bad pains in my lower left abdoment thought it was a muscle pull or hernia, ended up being diverticulitus....

My doctor told me to eat high fiber diet and stay away from nuts, corn, and seeds, is there anyone else out there that has this and knows of any other kinds of foods i need to avoid.

Any helpfull responses would be appreciated

My mother has diverticulitis, and she says everyone is different. It's mainly seeds - they're serious when they say that. They get stuck in those little pockets, it hurts like CRAZY and will make you look.. er.. man-pregnant.
For her, she can eat sunflower seeds no problem, but pumpkin seeds will make her keel over in pain. It's all about experimenting. =] Take care!

Tomato will set me off, the seeds in them and I can not eat the buns that have those little seeds and for some reason potato chips bother me.  Hope you feel better.

For me...raw carrots!...I can eat raw carrots but in small amounts.  Nuts...a big no, no for me.  When I'm having a "flare up" I take flax seed oil supplements every evening...really seems to help me alot!!!  Extra fruits and veggies (more or less a balanced plate!)...is helpful too.  Luck to you!

I don't have that, but I do have ulcerative colitis so pretty much anything I eat hurts. I have found that probiotics, flax & fish oil supplements help me. I don't take the meds they prescribed 'cause they made me sick. I don't get the cramping so much anymore, but I still get SERIOUSLY bloated by 3-4 o'clock EVERYDAY!!! That makes working out a nightmare, but you gotta push thru. My boyfriend's grandma has diverticulitis and absolutely stays away from strawberries. You don't relize all the things with seeds on them until it happens to you.

Diverticulitis changes everything! Just about anything that is small and hard, like seeds and nuts can get caught in the pockets. Other foods such as carrots and salads cause some people problems. Drink lots of fluid and eat plenty of fiber to keep things moving through you quickly.
