dizzy spells and feeling weak

Quote  |  Reply

Ok so for the past 2 weeks I have been trying out counting calories. i get very little exercise and am trying to maintain about 1300-1500 calories a day, with lots of fruit, veg, fish and grains,,,,but im starting to feel really weak, moody and dizzy when i stand. I've only lost 2kg in the last 2 weeks and am not feeling very hungry. which foods might I be missing out on? i want to do this right , thanx

I have felt the same way. I lost about 10 lbs in 2 1/2 weeks, it got so bad one day that I had to go to the Emergency room because i was about to faint. The doctor did some blood test to make sure I wasnt anemic and to check my glucose and electrolytes. He told me to be sure to get enough fluid in and sugar (very important not to completely cut this out) he also said to get lots of rest. Protein is also very important I have a shake every morning it is about 200 cal and gives 36 grams protein! I hope this helps and I hope you feel better if not you should definetly go to your doctor.

feeling dizzy and weak can be a symptom of blood sugar disturbance (among other things)

I'd make an appointment with my doctor and have some basic bloodwork done just to make sure it's nothing serious.

Then while you're there, you can tell them what you're eating and see if they say to add something else.

:)

noemi21 - did your  blood tests show any reasons for the diziness?   I feel kind of light headed and dizzy since starting too.   I think I get enough fluids and I certainly didn't cut out too much sugar.  Just curious
Nothing came back wrong with my blood test, everything was normal, since I was having headaches I also went to the eye doctor to make sure it wasnt being caused by vision problems there they did a field test to check for tumors or any problems in my head that could cause this. Everything was normal there. The only thing pending is to get my thyroid checked. I still feel dizzy and weak or shaky sometimes and I am not sure why but i did follow the doctor's recommendations that helped a little. I will keep trying to find out what's wrong with me it's normal to feel this way especially for a long period of time. Good luck!

Hello,

I have frequent dizzy spells due to low blood sugar problems and low blood pressure.

I find that a small snack or something to drink usually helps- dehydration plays a big part so be sure to drink plenty of water or juice but diet sodas tend to make this worse for me. Keep your protein up and be sure to get some carbs. You may want to check out  GI foods or cookery book to reccomend the best foods to sustain a healthy blood sugar level.

Good luck!

I do remember the days of having dizzy spells and feeling weak. Arg! Just drink lots of drinks and that it will do good. :)
I've felt that way when not eating enough.

I don't know how much loss is 2 kg.  How many pounds is that?

2kg is about 5 pounds i think. went to the doc after the suggestions, and my blood sugar seemed ok, but blood pressure was quite low. the doc said it's probably coz I stopped taking the pill about a month ago. it seems to be getting better now, im not too dizzy but still feel pretty weak :(
