doctor's office scale

Quote  |  Reply

I went to the doc this morning for a checkup, and was pretty disappointed when I stepped onto the scale. Is it normal to be about 5 lbs heavier on their scale??

Maybe. :P I always weigh heavier at the doctor's too.

My doctor's scale always weighs me 8 pounds heavier than the home scale. I think the people who sell the home models know that people will buy the scale that weighs them at a lower number. I used the adjustment wheel on the scale to add 8 pounds, so the scale always starts at 8, not 0. That way there are no surprises.

Sorry, hit Post Reply twice by accident.

Don't worry about it - measurements from scale to scale can vary.

Yah but shouldn't you only weigh yourself first thing in the morning without any clothes?  So you have to take that into account - what time of the day it is (how many meals and liquids have you already had) and how much your clothes add to that amount aswell.

I will tell you from experience each scale is different....it could be the scale in the doctors office wasnt totally calibrated...it could be a different time of day you weighed in from your normal time...which if you consume anything or get rid of it...it will have an impact on your weight...bottom-line use the one you always use and at the same time each time and dont worry about what the other scale said...because unless you plan to go to the doctors office at the same time every time it probably will always be off.

I was about five pounds heavier on the Doctor's scale at my recent appointment. I was having my cholesterol tested, so hadn't eaten anything yet that morning, but drank a lot of water so I that I wouldn't be dehydrated before giving blood. I figure with the water weight and clothes it probably added a few pounds.

The Doctor commented that I had lost some weight since my last appointment, so that made me feel good. It's the overall weight loss that matters - so, like dave98z3 commented, log the weight from the scale that you normally use, and try not to worry about the other one.

Doctors scales make me so stressed out.  I usually politely decline to be weighed and tell the nurse my approximate weight.  I have scale anxiety so I only weigh myself at home, in private, first thing in the morning...

Bottom line, don't worry about it.

i went to the doctor yesterday too, and i weighed at home about two hours prior...but was still about 4 pounds heavier. ughh. dissapointing...but maybe its just really common.

Totally normal.  You're wearing clothes (which can add several pounds, depending on what you're wearing).  You've also probably had breakfast - or at least a cup of coffee or tea - so there's the weight of the food/drink you've consumed too.
