I try my best to eat a balanced diet and have a junk food treat everday; aslong as it fits into my caloric needs then its all good :)

I agree, as long as you don't consume t00 much grams of sugar, and watch your fat intake.
I personally don't like a lot of junk food- it makes me sick, and I'd rather eat something I enjoy more than wasting a lot of calories on mindless eating. It's not as though I don't eat junk at all if I want it, but I'm less likely to because I like having a balanced diet. (Not like I can get all the nutrients I need from eating cookies and chips all day)
one thing...fat, carb nor protein grams make you fat....over eating does. so fat grams has nothing to do with this :)
Junk food makes me sick to my stomach.  I have gotten so used to not eating it to when i do eat it, i get a tummy ache.

I think many CC'ers are not just concerned with losing weight.
It's about living a healthier life.
And, consuming junk food regularly is not something that most people see as part of that lifestyle.
Don't get me wrong - I have my indulgences, but I don't use the logic "a calorie is a calorie".
That seems to sound more like trying to justify something you know is not the smartest choice.

Yes, a calorie IS a calorie, however, it's how it is spent that counts.
A 300 calorie candy bar can serve as your 7am breakfast. However, you will eat MORE calories than you would if you started with a bowl of Fiber One and fruit.
Why? Because by 8:30am you will be STARVED after the sugar rush is gone from the candy bar.
With the Fiber One and fruit, I am not hungry again until at least 10:30am.

And, if  you think 'you only live once' and a calorie is a calorie.....why are you on CC?
Just a thought!

Yes, however, treat your body right and it will treat you right.  If you fuel yourself with crap, then chances are you will feel like crap.  Think more along the lines that, premium nutritious food is fuel for our body to function at its best.

Take care :+)

P.S.

Perhaps start a "healthy alternative" list to get started.  You may be suprised at what you actually like.

Here is an example

Junk -  full fat Ice cream  Alternative - Frozen Yogurt

Junk - Mayo Alternative - yogurt or cottage cheese

Junk - Tortilla Chips Alternative - Multi grain Tortilla chips

Junk - reg pretzels - Alternative - Whole grain/whole wheat pretzels

etc. you get the idea.  I hope this helps.  Really take care and eat right Smile

Like you say, a calorie is a calorie, and junk food tends to be higher in calories while providing less of what you need (hence its name!). If you're on a "diet" (i.e. cutting calories) it's obviously easier to meet your requirements (and feel fuller) within your calorie goal if you don't eat "junk" too often.

Because "JUNK" food is aptly (and correctly) named.

Amen Molly! xDD

I personally don't eat junk food because well, I just try to avoid processed foods in general because they're simply not good for you. No offense Bobby, but it's kind of an obvious question; heheh.
If you eat healthier food, if you shop right, it can be cheaper. Plus, if you get more energy and feel more full from a food, you won't eat as much of it. But it takes quite a few cookies to make you feel full - then, when you crash after the sugar rush, you'll probably eat more cookies.

Plus, I like to get creative with food. What's the fun of dumping dry macaroni in boiling water, then throwing in the cheese packet? None whatsoever. :P

a) Junk food isn't filling

b) Too much junk food would leave me nutritionally deprived

c) Junk food costs a lot of money, and given how much of it I would have to eat to be satisfied, that adds up quickly.

d) Too much junk food makes me feel sick

Dude, you really need to get off this site and get help.

If you only live once, why not have a cigar, too? Skipping junk food won't make you live twice, but over the long haul it's a better ride.

Personally I eat a lot of junk food.  Fast digesting carbs have their place in my diet when I need the energy, and I don't see a lot of difference between a Snickers, a Clif bar or Yoplait for getting that energy hit.  I watch the portion size, though.

I draw the line at deep fried twinkies.  One per lifetime is all I want.  Make that two lifetimes.
I second dm84.  Seriously, he's obsessed and continually posts the same things.  He is seriously ill and needs professional help.  Can't the mods do something like revoke his account.  It obviously is doing more harm than good judging by the posts.
at the risk of being painfully obvious, if you're sticking to a certain # of calories per day, you're going to be starving if you only eat junk food.

Would you rather eat one big mac a day and nothing else (and starve the rest of the day), or a series of healthy meals and snacks and feel good?
I eat junk food daily, but its not ALL that I eat. I consider it a treat, and I like to treat myself daily. ;-) Hah.
why eat a bowl of cereal when you can have a bowl of icecream Smile
I still eat junkfood on a weekly basis

moderation moderation moderation

I am limited to 1400-1500 calories per day to combat OBESITY which has a damaging effect on my life - I would like to get some satisfaction and nutrition out of my calories, and junk food doesn't do it for me anymore.  Not to say I don't allow myself a treat now and then, but 150 calories worth of oatmeal holds me until lunch.  150 calories worth of Cocoa Krispies would only last me about an hour before I was hungry again.  So yes, a calorie is a calorie, but when I only get so many per day, I want them to count for something!

I just started my diet and I will eat junk on the weekend but I notice that always leads to craving other bad choices through the day.  I always tell myself this will give me that fix I need but in the long run I always want more.  If I use healthier substitutes my cravings are not so bad.  But I do agree you gotta live so if you want something everyone in a while go for it but everyday only leads for me to failure.  Maybe If I had more will power.
