Tied up outdoors

No water in bowl outside

No food in bowl outside

He gets tangled around his cord and has about an inch of it left to move around

He is very shy and scared

The animal department said they would go out and talk to them and they might have but it has not changed.

What would you do?

I assume this is a recurring situation??

My dog has been in that situation a couple of times despite our best efforts (he's dumb, and we figured out we had to get a water bowl he couldn't knock over, because he was turning it over and scooting across the porch with his front legs on it!), but yeah, it should be very rare.

I don't know what I would do.  Go snip the cord?  Try to make friends and get him untangled?  Call animal control again?

thats what im thinking. i know someone that would like a dog.

Have you tried talking to the owners?  Just like kids, people frequently assume that having a pet doesn't take any extra time or effort.  Perhaps they truly don't know that the condition they see the dog in when they get home is something happening all day or that there are better ways to leave their dog when they're not hom.

Sick. Call the Humane Society. It's illegal for a dog to live in conditions that don't provide shelter and water, which he obviously lacks considering there is no bowl, and no shelter. Very illegal. I work with groups in Minnesota aiding animals in these situations, and it's truly heartbreaking. Please get help for this animal.

This.

It is illegal for an animal to be neglected.  From experience, I know that it takes several pages of documentation to prove neglect and in the meantime the animal has to suffer.  In all my years of dealing with this, I have never quite figured out why the owners of the dogs in question even keep them.  I have actually been to houses for follow up on neglect and found dead dogs--because of the neglect.  HOWEVER, unless a necropsy is done there is no way to prove it was actually from neglect and blah blah blah.  I think my point has been made.  PPP  Puppy Protection Program.  If the dog happened to get loose and you didn't remember where it came from...and you knew someone wanting a dog...well then, problem solved.

Yep I have pretty much made up my mind. He is getting a new home.

How does stealing someone's dog fix the problem?  Chances are good, they'll get another one.  You gonna steal it too?

Yep, I'm gonna steal that one too.

because if they are leaving it outside and ignoring it I'm betting there's a good chance they don't give a crap about it and don't want to bother taking care of it. They'll see the dog is gone and feel releived and say "Oh man I'm so glad that dog is gone! what a HASSLE!" and then they'll go on doing whatever they were doing while they were neglecting the poor thing.

Way to go schnood. I'm glad someone's lookin out for the poor doggies around there! I saw your other post about the poor crippled puppies :[ are they still breeding? It made me sad. But the puppies sounded cute... in a sad crippley way.

Call police/sheriff/animal control EVERY day until something is done! I've done this and if you make yourself a nuisance to them they will go out and address the situation.  Depending on where you live and the laws, if the owner doesn't have proof of shots/license for dog they will pick it up even if it doesn't look starved/abused.

Let us know what happens.

You could also call the SPCA.  They may be able to contact the police for you and get more action because they have more clout.  They can also give you specific information on how to legally affect a rescue.

But dont steal the dog.  You can get in trouble yourself that way.  And the family will just get the dog back.  So you will have a criminal record and the family will still be abusing their dog.  Not exactly a win win.

schnooder are these the dogs with the claw deformity (or something like that) that are on your route?
