That's too few calories.  You should have at least 1200/day for basic body functioning.  Your goal seems reasonable.  :)  Kelly
I agree. Your body will go into starvation mode with that few of calories and will start saving as much of it as it can. Eat more!!
your 16 like i am, i found that it took VERY little effeort to lose weight, i simply cut out alot of snacks and walked a bit and swam a bit, and the weight fell OFF!!!!

eating 800 calories when your growing is utterly stupid, there i said it....

your also tehcally not over weight at all, you indeed have a healthy BMi weight. While i can understand that you want to lose the flab, i would suggest you eat alot more, and simply cut out snacks and do some lifting. however i dont personally think you need to knock off many pounds anyway.

cutting out that many calories will end up nuking your body, trust us here, its happened to many of us, including me....
thanks you guys but everytime i eat more i tend to really freak out and i exercise alot more then i use to.
yeah, you get that inpulse to burn off what you ate, right?

heres my advise, KNOCK IT OFF!!!! heh

i experienced the same thing and it drove my nuts and made me underweight and sick...

losing weight unhealthily is gona hurt you in the long run, i know you want results... but these quick results you seek will only hurt your body.
basically what im saying now is....

at this point in your life you will NEVER be able to lose weight as quickly and naturally as you can now, it took me and many over freinds of mine little effort. at this point of our lives, its important to devolope healthy eating habbits, both include eating healthy foods, and enough food.

we are both young and we will never be able to eat or do as m uch as we can now, so please dont be so harsh on your body and act like your a 60 year old grandma( no offense)... your body is still growing and needs the calories too, and to depive it of that will only hurt you in the long run.
thanks dartrinton
i had already lost 33 pounds in like 5 months already so i guess i got....i don't know what that word i'm looking for hmmm..........got traumatized by me loosing weight and my mom being gone for a  month and family problems.
He's right... You still could add a few inches to your height if you ate enough calories that your body could grow...  All of the girls I went to HS with (I'm now 33) that did what you are doing ended up being very weak and none grew to be tall.  They also aged very quickly in their twenties, looking much older than their age.  That may seem ok in your 20s, but what does that mean for your 30s? 40? 50?
At age 16, you are still growing and you should NOT be on a diet designed to create a calorie deficit. Also please note that the guidelines and recommendations on this site are intended for fully grown adults. You still have some growing to do.

Even if you have reached your full height (and I gained one full inch between ages 17 and 19), you are still building muscles, still accumulating bone density, and your brain is undergoing very rapid, amazing growth, which will continue until you are around age 21. In fact, your brain is growing faster now than it did when you were an infant!!

There is not much known about the calorie requirements for adolescents, except that they are *greater* than what is recommended for adults, so please realize that the 1200 minimum and the 2000 recommended daily average DOES NOT APPLY TO YOU. Also your nutritional requirements for things like calcium, iron, protein are greater. While this site is great for learning about the nutrition and calorie contents of your foods, if you want more specific guidelines for your needs, get off line and see your doctor.

Instead of creating a calorie deficit, you should aim to grow into your current weight, which is already a healthy weight. I am 41 years old, one inch shorter than you, and weigh 4 lbs heavier than you. I guarantee you have more muscle than me too! If you don't, you should work on that, because this is the easiest time in your life to gain muscle... by my age, you start losing a little bit per year, and it sucks.

And I'd really hope you have heavier bones than I do - but you won't, if you continue to cut your calories so low, you are setting yourself up for osteoporosis by age 40. One of the initial signs of porous bones is gray hair before age 30.

I know you're only 16 and focused on what you look like now, but maybe you should consider how you want to look at 30? Do you want gray hair, brittle bones, weak muscles?
just dont be too harsh on your self, remeber calorie counting religoiusly at our age isnt a smart idea, since we are growing.

however, congrats on losing weight though, im glad you took your life into control. now you need to nourish yourself and maintain, and if you want that excess weight loss flab to be gone, a bit of muscle toning did me good, got rid of the skin that devoloped.

hey, i don't know who you are personally but whoever you are, PLEASE LISTEN TO THE OTHER PEOPLE ON THIS SITE.

at 800 cal. per day YOU ARE STARVING YOURSELF. even if you led a sedentary lifestyle, at your age you should be consuming minimum 1800 calories to maintain weight. think about it. you're eating 1000 calories less, PLUS you're exercising?! girl, do you know how much danger you're putting your body, the only one you're ever gonna have, in?

please take it from me and the other teens on this site who have made the same mistakes... don't do this to yourself.

please don't do this, eating less than 1200 calories everday is very harmful for your body! I'm 16 as well and I've been down that path where I ate like you for a month and from one teen to another, it's not worth it at all. Starving yourself with the lack of calories will only make you gain back the weight faster or even more weight. If you continue with this plan any longer you may even develop an eating disorder. This is not a healthy way to live. I know it is hard to face the fact that the calories we eat will make us gain weight but the truth is you won't gain weight as long as you eat healthy-which is not 800 calories a day. Please, please don't eat less than 1200 calories, even that is too low for us since we are still growing. Good luck.
