What am I doing? This is crazy.

Okay, so I've been an ED sufferer since I was 16 (I'm 21 now) and it has shown its evil face in many forms. I'm in counseling finally and trying to sort out some of the roots of my problems....

however, in the past two months, something really weird has happened to me. I seem to have developed an intense fear of anything that is not:

all bran cereal, cottage cheese, yogurt, raw almonds and almost any fruit and vegetable.

Obviously, this is an issue and I'm fully aware of the fact that I need to come clean to my counsellor about it in our next session - I've neglected to talk specifically about what I eat in a day since starting...

has anyone else ever dealt with anything like this? I know that everyone has "fear foods," but I just feel the list of foods I actually eat is ridiculously small at the moment. I guess I'm just actually starting to scare myself. I'm not religiously counting calories. I'm getting my period and I'm at a healthy weight, so I know it can't be that bad. Still, very strange. I've never dealt with this before.

hey,

My sister suffered from ED for 6 years and she had a veryu short list of food she would eat. She was obsessive about it. She is finally on her way to recovery and seems to still have an attachment to certain foods and fears of others. I think you should for sure tell your councilor.

If you feel up to it one day, inc operate a new food into what you eat regularly and try it that way. Maybe it wont be sooo scary. Smile

thanks for the reply, ndero :). i appreciate your input.

i'm starting to worry that i'm missing some key nutrients... or something. i donno.

i set up an appointment, though, so that's good. unfortunately not soon enough.

hun this is anorexia.... i am 21 too and have had it for 10 yrs.....my list is the very same as your but with chickpeas and fish and eggs...... this happens .... honest thou...other food are just as healthy!

ah the typical fear foods that are very healthy but still frighten you to death. I had this happen to me...Whenever I had foods that would help me maintain, I was always afraid to break out of the habit. The only way I could beat this was getting myself for a few days somethign different. LIke for example...if I was having chickpeas, and chicken for my "safety" list of foods...I would break it and have lentils and tuna for a few days...its obvious that you wont gain any weight from foods you dont normaly eat, specialy if they're healthy choices...the only way to break the fear is to do it yourself at home and with counseling. Trust me..the best therapy is trusting yourself and your body....you'll find that you can go a long way with just trust, and nourishment.

good luck.

once i refused to eat anything but raw fruit for 3 months.

but now, i set one day of the week to have a challenge food. it kind of shows you how a food out of your safety box won't kill you. something like chips, a candy bar, peanut butter and apple...

talk about it with your counselor, that's what he/she is there for!
