I have only lost 15 pounds since March 15 and none of that really in the month of May. My May stats are above. Call me crazy but I think they look pretty good? It is not easy living on 1400 calories a day, and feels even worse when you are getting no results from it. I don't go over on sodium. I eat the recommended 21g fibre for my age bracket. What the heck??? More protein, less fat? Cut back on carbs? I thought my percentages were looking like a textbook case of a "normal" or "healthy" mix?
I am overweight at 225lbs so it should be coming off pretty steadily with a daily deficit of over 600 from the sedentary burn rate. Plus, I walk 3 or 4 times a weeks as well. To me, the math is just not adding up. I can try increasing the calories to try and bust loose from the stall. So thanks for that advice. What's the worst that can happen other than add a couple more extra pounds to the overall quantity to be lost?
OMG I'M STUCK TO :'(
If you have been truly dieting everyday for months you need to take a day off and really blast up the calorie intake, it'll mess up your bodies brain so when you diet the next day and so forth, you might gain a pound or something but it should go back down.
I find it hard to get up to 1, 200 calories to eat in a day, you might be doing something wrong or don't know about certain alternatives, i.e. brown bread => weight watchers brown bread, the slices are halfed so you can have a sandwhich still but with less carbs and calories.
It's really sad but it's a fact of life that everybody will get stuck, there's nothing anybody can do about it ... I'd say add excersize, it can do you a world of good ^_^
I started at 276 pounds, and still I had a really early brief plateau, too (after losing about 15 pounds). I know how frustrating it can be when you feel like you're doing everything right, but the scale isn't cooperating. I found a few things that helped get the scale moving down again. The first, as gi-jane pointed out, is taking maintenance days. Sometimes it can even help to take a maintenance weekend. This can shake up your metabolism a little. I also found that adding strength training two days a week sped things up a little. If those don't work, you might try zig-zagging your calories, where you eat a different number of calories every day, shooting for your target intake as a weekly average. Some people can also plateau when they are not eating enough calories. The numbers on calorie count are just an estimate, and some people's bodies require more than the site says. I had to mess around with all of these changes to get out of my first plateau, and my weight loss has been pretty steady since then. (30 pounds, whoo hoo!) I hope you find something that works for you. Good luck!
Thanks for your words of support! It is good to know you are not alone on the weird plateaus. I am going to add some weights as you have suggested, and maybe I'll make more of an effort to drink bottled water which I have only been doing about a litre a day in addition to tea and coffee and the odd no cal soft drink. I'm going to aim for a couple of high cal, high flush, days and see if it jump starts the engine.
Just don't get discouraged. I went through the same thing. I had been steadily losing and then got stuck- for longer than I thought I should- but upon the advice of many I tried to "eat up" and it finally kicked in. I have been losing slowly at about 1/2 pound a week and I am REALLY happy about it. It's like I hardly work at it at all! Every few days I eat quite a bit of food and then cut it back for a few days. I even splurge with pizza every once in a while! Sometimes I had to make myself eat to even get the recommended calories, but I have lost almost 30 pounds since September and I am no longer discouraged. I am THRILLED!!!
Hang in there!
You can also shake up your percentages. Eat more protein and fats, and less carbs. Worked for me.
The stats of 50% carbs etc... are for the population average.
In there there could easily be people that function best at 60% or 40% carbs.
For me, it has been an adventure to find where I sit compared to the average.
Turns out I work best at only a 200cal deficit, but at the time I only had 10lbs of fat to lose.
The deficit at 800 never worked as it should have for me.
Everyone is different, and it is a quest for you personally to find what works most efficiently.
Take care.
