Dominant vs Non-dominant side
Hi!
I've noticed that my right side (which is my dominant side) seems to have more muscle definition than my left side. Either that or more fat has come off the right side exposing said definition. Has anyone else noticed a similar pattern? And if you have is there anything you could do to even the sides out? I also noticed a difference in my measurements from the right side to the left side (measurements are in a journal entry). It's not that noticeable unless your me with the first hand view (I think). I do feel myself sometimes seeming to use my right side to compensate for my left sides weakness. What can I do about that?
Maybe I'm just seeing things/being paranoid.
Kthx,
Mel
Work your left side harder!
how? it seems to be a reflex of mine that when it gets too tough for the left side, my right side automatically steps in to share the load...
I guess I should do more reps/sets with my left side alone?
Yes, or try some exercises that will isolate your left side. Side plank comes to mind.
Some people have this and some don't. Actually, not everyone who is, say, right handed is also right-footed (if that makes sense). People who have more 'ambidextrous' bodies have less of this.
Basically, anything you do with both hands, or both feet, or right side takes the lead. You may not have been working them out incorrectly, especially if you work out one side at a time, but even in your daily life, you're body automatically compensates for weakness on your weak side.
As for me, my left side is noticeably weaker than my right side, so I'm sure if I lose enough weight, I'll have the same problem.
And yeah, giving the left some reps alone should take care of it.
And it's probably much less noticeable than you think : )
grab the dumbbells - do an extra set on your left side til it catches up.
on one of my cathe dvds she actually says "if one of you sides is stronger do a few more reps on the weak side"
bet it doesnt take long to even it out tho - be careful you dont overdo and then have to do the right side to catch up.
my left boob is bigger
my left foot is bigger
sadly my left foot is bigger than both my boobs
i know random
People aren't semetrical, get over it.
Seeing muscle definition? Thats just cool on its own.
But yah - I agree with the fact that people just aren't semetrical. And also try to use dumbells more often so that you can't favour one side.
SYMMETRICAL
yeah, I always use free weights/dumbells, and I do a lot of one-legged stuff. Lunges, 1-leg deadlifts... Trying to do 1 leg squats but I am not ready LOL.
I want to see definition!!! I want I want I want! =D

SYMMETRICAL
PSSHT... Its friday and everyone gets a grammar/spelling pass.
I am very right-handed. So my left arm and hand is able to hold heavier things longer because I'm always carrying stuff in my left hand so I can do things with my right hand.
I started playing tennis when I was around three. I grew up to play pro junior tennis. I'm right-handed, so the dominant hand that I grip the racquet with is my right. I've noticed that if I line up both my hands, the fingers of my right hand are longer than the fingers of my left hand by one centimeter. My right palm is also quite a bit more muscular and bigger/wider.
Thanks for the replies you guys. I was kinda just curious if anyone else has noticed this kind of thing. Some of you treated me like an idiot, which I did not appreciate...I know bodies aren't symmetrical (very, very few are), one look at my face and I see that. I just thought it was odd in terms of musculature not just general skeletal structure. e.g. My right hand is bigger than my left but my left foot is longer than my right.
Thank you ktjo for correcting the misspellings of "symmetrical"...crazydiamond I do not care if it was a Friday, NO FREE PASSES ON BAD SPELLING/GRAMMAR
lol...also you will see definition eventually. I figure I was kinda fit to begin with then all the fat went away and BOOM there it was. It'll happen.
watergirl-i like random :P and i'll take your advice
mindaspk-you are a joy, as always...yeah i am right handed but my left foot is bigger (if that's what being a certain -footed means)...I'm certain it's not visible to anyone but me too :) Good luck on your journey to my current position! My arms are pretty even I think because I play piano and I played the french horn (which utilizes the left hand to play)
Okay, if there are no free passes. Let's look at your post.
kinda is not a work.
i'll isn't proper, it is I'll (with a capital I)
You do not put a period at the close of your last sentence.
I'm sure there are more things that can/should be corrected in your post if you are going to be merciless.

hehehe... who gets to do yours? ;)
Anyone who wants to. :P
Honestly, I dont' care... .SHE's the one who said NO FREE PASSES. and she spells her name prinzessin
ok karozel, i will let you call me on my hypocrisy. i don't capitalize my "i"s when i type in this type of context because i'm lazy and a bad typer and sometimes i think i hit the key hard enough but i actually didn't. And when i said "no free passes" i really wanted to put "on my thread" after it, which in my childish mind would make me exempt.
Now about my name....do not criticize that because it is German not English. "prinzessin" is the German word for "princess"...my name means "princess nose in the book"...it's my daddy's nickname for me because i was a big reader growing up.
Also, I am usually pretty forgiving about spelling/grammatical errors that could be due to mistyping, but blatantly incorrect things are harder to forgive.
How often should you eat during the day?
It is neither necessary to eat every two hours nor to stop eating at 6:00 PM. As long as your calorie intake is less than your output... Read more
