I did workout 1A on tuesday. My legs are more sore today than yesterday, should I do workout 1B or wait until the soreness lessens?
For me personally, I find activity when I experience muscle soreness like that helps, so I would probably go ahead and do the workout, but I would probably do a bit of a longer warm up, ease up a bit on the weight and add some stretching between the exercises to ease the soreness. Afterward, if you can, take a hot bath and soak your muscles, and if a shower is all you have, make it the warmest shower you can stand, letting the spray hit your legs for awhile.
If you are so sore that what I am suggesting sounds too painful, then ditch the weights for today and go for a long walk, then take the bath/shower and hit the weights tomorrow. An extra day in between won't be a problem.
I personally worked thru the soreness. I found that I was more sore the second day after working out too. That was usually the day I needed to workout again, wanting to get in 3 X a week.
The first couple weeks my legs were sore, but now I don't get as sore anymore even though I have been increasing weight each time. I am at the end of phase 1.
Thanks Paula. I think I'll probably do the long walk today. My legs don't hurt when I walk, it's getting up from a seated position or sitting down. My guess is the stepups did me in.
Ooops, Yogagirl. I was probably writing at the same time you were. Thanks for you reply.
Your guess would probably be dead on
. The good news is that while they are never fun, those buggers do get a little better with each attempt.
I've heard it's best to work through the soreness. You actually don't notice it much once you get warmed up and going. Also, I found that 1B worked different parts of my muscles than 1A, so it wasn't too bad.
I'm with Emily on this one. The more active you are, the less sore you'll feel.
If you're super sore, you could do some intervals and just get your muscles warm.

I found this to be the case as well. Now new things are hurting (I just restarted the program after a summer of running. BAD SPIROCHETE)
Thank you all for the advice. I did take a hot shower and it did get better, so off to the gym this afternoon for more punishment, nah... I shouldn't call it punishment because I really love lifting. It's the only kind of exercise I don't find boring and look forward to doing.
I was lifting until May of this year, then I got sick and stopped lifting on my cardiologist's advice. He allowed me to do only cardio until we figured out what was wrong. As soon as he gave me the green light 3 weeks ago, I ordered the book and I am so looking forward to this program.
Thanks again for being here, this group ( lifters) is great and I'm glad to be a part of it.
On the go andin the know.
