I went home to visit my folks down south for 3 weeks. Think fried, greasy, covered in gravy food. I was terrified that I was going to gain weight on this trip, and to my suprise I got home and I had lost 2 pounds in the 3 weeks. I wasn't able to get a whole lot of exercise and I didn't eat the best foods, but I learned to control my portions and still lost even without the counting.

I am so proud of myself and just wanted to let everyone know that it can be done!

Yay! Congrats!

My mum was worried that the week we just spent in Spain (lots of sherry, tapas and olive oil - healthy oil, yes, but she tends to get her fats from nuts and fish primarily so it was a bit of a shock) would cause her to put on weight, but instead, on the last day back, she put on a pair of cut off jeans she had bought for the holiday once too tight - and they fell around her ankles while she was cleaning the kitchen!

We reckon the reason why was because she knew when to stop. Was probably also helped by the amount of walking and sightseeing we did and the way tapas works and all - lots of sharing between little plates - but she was very pleased!

I would bet that portion control made the success in both instances.  You have reminded me that when the right foods aren't available, one can always eat less of what is available.   It also helps to be distracted as one tends to be during visits and vacations.

 

Congrats!!  I know my mom is always cooking good food. When I am at her house I have had to learn portion control. It really does help.  Good Work!

Bet there's lots of us hoping to get to the point where we can control ourselves around our mom and her cooking (and her hurt looks when you try to push away or say no...)
