Don't drink water....drink COKE...it hydrates too. (shameless coke campaign)

Quote  |  Reply
Really this is shameless! I was looking on the 12-pack of coke I bought yesterday...and they now have a campaign going on that says if your thirsty...water is good, but we are better. LOL

It says " Who knew soft drinks could be so hydrating?"

'It's true. All beverages hydrate, including soft drinks. So if you are looking for hydration, but want the delicious and refreshing taste you get from CocaCola, don't compromise - go for it! You'll be hydrating your body with each and every sip."

Then it says FOR MORE INFORMATION ON THE BENEFITS OF HYDRATION, GO TO: http://www.makeeverydropcount.com/your-wellne ss-wisdom/hydration.jsp

Then THERE it says: Experts agree that when it comes to your overall health and wellness, water is a great choice. But it's not the only one. The Coca-Cola Company has beverages that help you to hydrate, energize, nourish, relax and enjoy. Remember, every drop you drink contributes toward your hydration needs.

I though Coke had caffiene, and caffiene was a dieretic... well-being.-->

I agree, it has caffeine AND sodium to make you more thirsty so you'll drink more! It's all a marketing scheme!! Plus some bottled water has sodium in it too to make you drink more!! I swear these marketing reps are the devil! All they care about is their precious $$!
I stopped drinking diet soda (my staple liquid) a week ago and changed to water only,  and I gained 4 lbs immediately without changing my diet!  That's proof that I was dehydrated and all the water I drank was absorbed by my cells like little sponges!!!
I drink about half a can a day as a treat...but I certainly would not consider drinking it when I'm really thirsty. Actually...when I'm thirsty like after a work-out or when I was preggers....I find it really nasty.

They are like "sure water is good" but we taste better so you'll get more hydrated because you'll drink more. This was on a box of regular coke...not to mention the "extra empty calories" you'd be ingesting in the name of hydration! lol
i get thirstier after drinking sodas.... water or unsweetened tea, only for me. i don't like carbonation!!!

i wonder how much they had to pay to the ACSM....
I used to drink like 2 cans a day or more...since I cut back, what I have noticed is the cravings for sweets and fatty foods are almost completely non-existant now! It's so weird because I've always considered myself a junk food addict. Now I'm not even tempted.
Actually it is true that cola (any brand) has electrolytes that improve water absorption, and for that purpose are in general better for you than, say, Gatorade (as long as you choose diet cola).  HOWEVER, it also has a crapload of chemicals and other bad things that counterbalance any beneficial aspects.  Assuming you are getting some sodium in your diet (and it's really hard NOT to get sodium in one's diet, it's in so many foods) you don't really need to worry about electrolytes and water absorption.  That is, unless you are an elite athlete who runs supermarathons and 100-mile races, in which case I would think you would have a trainer/doctor to monitor that sort of thing.

That ad campaign IS shameless, though.  Totally skews the facts!
There was a study mentioned in this month's Women's Health Magazine that Coke has a pH very close to that of battery acid.  It showed how much it eats away at tooth enamel.  Yet another reason not to drink it!
I haven't drank soda in over a decade and I don't miss it one bit!  I love cold iced water with lemon...ahhh...refreshing!  (my own little commercial!  LOL)
julieraven, how much did the cold iced water with lemon people pay you for that?
Even before I stopped drinking soda, I never drank Coke or the other caffeinated stuff. Then somebody sent this to me and showed me I can be right in my thinking at least some of the time.

Warning: If you love Coke, I wouldn't read this.
Good link, mathwiz.... I feel as though yesterday was my last coke! (I didn't drink one today.. GO ME!!) :o)
