Why don't girls leave their Hair Natural?
I was just wondering why fellow girls never leave their hair natural anymore. Everyone dyes it. Straight hair girls want curly and curly hair girls straighten their hair. A lot of girls back in the day such as Maureen McCormick never bothered to.
I'm not trying to bash anyone and I'm not a feminist or anything. I was just wondering what everyone's take on this was. =)
As to why? I dunno, maybe people want a change. Maybe some people look better a different color. Sara Jessica Parker is cute as a blonde but not so much as a brunette (natural color).
yeah. that bad.
For some, it might be a matter of just doing something a little different that really changes one's look. For me, I straighten because my hair is coarse and has a very strong wave pattern through much (but not all) of my hair. I am growing my hair out for Locks of Love for the second time and I work in a bank, so I straighten it to keep it from looking too wild and unruly. I've had a pixie cut and hair halfway down my back. After I donate it I will keep it in a bob. If "Maureen" didn't have to do anything to make her hair so straight, I'd be suprised - maybe she was just one of the few lucky ones!
I get bored with my hair very quickly. I change the color about 3 or 4 times a year. I've tried a perm, and loved it when it was fresh, but when it was old it looked like crap, so I doubt I'll try that one again (plus it smelled terrible!!) I'm more cautious about a cut because I had a terrible short haircut as a kid and that's WAY harder to fix than color gone wrong :)
I haven't seen my natural hair color since I was in 6th grade...and I'm 22 now!
I'm completely natural. Most of the time, I just wash it at night and brush it when I wake up.
But, most women do for a variety of reasons. I don't care what other people do with their hair, really.
I think it's for the same reason that women get different hair styles. Wearing your hair the same way gets boring. Also, how do you know if you wouldn't like a different hair style better unless you try another one? It's the same with dying your hair.
FYI...I have dyed and permed my hair, which is naturally light brown and wavy.
I have thick, thick, THICK, jungle woman CRAZY curly hair. It's insane.
I rebelled against my curls and got my hair Japanese/Chemically straightenned. But my hair grew in, and so I just tie my hair up into a bun and load the top with gel and hair spray.
My hair is very fine *and* thin. As a child, I was close to a white-blonde. By my late 20s, my hair color had changed to a dark blonde that totally washed me out. Just... blah!!
So I started highlighting about 15 years ago, and I was amazed at the effect. It wasn't just the color change - it was the change in texture. Dying makes my hair thicker and more manageable, easier to style.
I have continued highlighting and/or dying ever since, typically I go lighter in the summer (close to what I had in my teens) and darker in the winter (only about a shade lighter than what is natural today). I do have about 25% gray now, if I stopped dying. But the reality is I would continue to dye it - even the exact same dark blonde - just for the texture change alone!!! It makes that big of a difference, for me.
EDIT for a P.s.: One of the reasons I began dying was because my kids have seriously blonde hair, and people were starting to ask me "where did they get such blonde hair??" Hello! Me! So whenever I have a new hairdresser, I take my kids with me, and ask for a shade between DD13 ("scandinavian - or Maryln Monroe - blonde") and DD15 ("jennifer anniston blonde"). And since I began dying, nobody has since asked that question. ;-)

What exactly does feminism have to do with hair care? Hahaha. Do you think all feminists are earthy crunchy types or something?
No but I've seen a lot of people get crap about being "crazy feminists" when they're just asking simple questions about hair or make up.
