Don't know how to take this comment a guy made
I was on campus, and this security guy stopped to chat with me for awhile. He asked me how tall I was and I said 5'8. He seemed really nice but there was something he said that I didn't know how to take. He said that if I had a boy, he'll be HUGE.
I said, "wow. okay" looking at him really confused.
He went on to say, "yeah you can tell what a boy will look like if you just see his mother. you're so tall and if you have a son he'll be a big guy."
I'm not THAT tall. I'm like 5'8, and I wear heels. I don't know it kinda make me feel less feminine and was a weird comment to make.
I have a medium/large build and I'm currently trying to lose weight. I'm not fat but I'm not really skinny either. people could describe me as being thick. This made me a bit insecure.
Hey, don't sweat it. It's just a comment, why does his opinion matter, right? But I'm guessing you look probably tall with your height plus heels. And nothing wrong with tall girls, nothing un-feminine about that.
I think he was trying to give you a compliment, actually, and did it awkwardly. I don't think it was a comment on your weight; rather, your stature - maybe you look Amazonian in your heels (in a good way!).
He wants you to have his children. ;)
This goes under the heading of:
People say stupid things when they don't know what to say.
He clearly was wracking his brain for anything remotely interesting to say to keep you talking/smiling at him.

There's your answer. He made the comment because he thinks you're tall. Maybe he's spent is life around short women.
I'm 5'8", too, and people have said this to me before. Wearing my favorite heels makes me close to 6' and people act like I'm an oddity. My husband is 6'2" so people seem to think that our children will be otherworldly tall.
I think the comment just shows how random and strange people can be and you have no reason to feel insecure.
Yeah, it really sounds like he was impressed by your height, and just trying to think of something to say.
Okay. lol It's just the strangest comment I ever received. I won't sweat it anymore.

When I was in college, a visitor to the dorms told me I had childbearing hips. I thought that was a pretty bizarre thing to say... Some people just don't realize that commenting on another person's physique is nearly always borderline impolite, and sometimes blatantly rude.

Had girlfriends in college who were on the BBall team, height genetics come from the mom, 5'8" is tall, I've made this comment before. He could have used a different adjective but he was just making an observation.
Its true! I'm 5'7 and my daughter was 8lb13.5oz when she was born... and is literally growing up nicely lol
My bro once said to me, I must have been about 16 at the time, 'oh you've got great babymaking hips' yeah thanks for that, I do have big hips, but there we go lol
Seriously tho, I think he was just making conversation...
Hehe Sweetigem, no real reflection on your brother, but it's interesting that HE was the one to observe this about your hips ;)
At the time, he was as skinny as skinny... he had no hips and was just jealous lol
Edit to add: I just remembered! around the same time, he told me 'Marilyn Monroe was a size 16 too' But I remember thinking 'yer but she was 6ft tall too' lol I think he was trying to make me feel better about my non existant weight problem.
Imo: He simply meant that you're a tall woman. 5'8 = Tall ;) I'm barely 5'2. It was a failed attempt to compliment and/ or make conversation with you, Lol!
Epic fail!
I'm a 48 year old guy and I can tell you from experince us men are not that smart and not that deep. Most defininatly it was a failed compliment. He assumed that since being tall as a guy is a desirable trait, that women would feel the same way and used it as a compliment, he wouldnt have even stopped to talk to you had he not found you atractive. Remmeber that in the long run the person you want is the one who atracted to what's inside so don't let these little things mess with your mind, the fact that your on this sight and trying to improve yourself speaks volumes about whats inside so don't let us brain dead men get you off track
My boyfriend of over a year has said that to me, and I have learned he means it as a huge compliment. I am also 5'7''-5'8'' (depending on who measures me lol) but I am pretty fat. Anyways, even when I weight a lot less, I am big. I mean I can have a flat tummy and a shapely butt but in general I have big bones. And wide hips. In my boyfriends culture and raising, being able to produce large children is a good thing. So I agree with many of the other people here, he was trying to compliment you but failed lmao.
My friend and I were talking about how people keep thinking we're a couple and I told him he's not my type because he's tall and thin with very lean muscle when i prefer the stalkier type. He went on to say that I'm not his type because he prefers girls that are more "athletic". I'm 5'11, 168 pounds and I have a large frame. That jerk called me fat.

Tit for tat.
To the OP, I don't think he meant anything bad by it. My sister is 5'9" and her children are tall. Her son is 6'4" and she has a daughter that is 6'1". Her other daughter is probably 5'8"
