i dont know how to control the sweating
so recently i was diagnosed with hyperhydrosis...the excessive sweating disease. i love to workout, but it got to the point where the amount of sweat i was putting out was a lot more than the intensity of my workout. sorry to sound gross but i am ringing out my shirts after only working out a half hour. my question is, does this affect my weight loss or hydration status? should i be drinking more than the average person since my sweating more than the average person? and does this have an effect on the amount of calories being burned? thanks!
You should definately be drinking enough to make up for the water lost during exercise and you probably need more salt/electrolytes as well. A good way to determine how much to drink is to weigh yourself before your workout and the again after. You need to drink 16 ounces of water for every pound lost.
Sweating does not effect your number of calories burned.
Definitely need to be drinking more water, I don't think it really has an effect on calories burned either way
Edited to second the electrolyte comment above
I get a reaction to one of my meds with excessive sweating- and find if I drink more water before a workout I'll sweat more - so maybe wait till during and after the workout to hydrate. I know it works for me at least.
I only wish it did burn more cals - cause then I could lose weight whilst I sleep LOL!!
oh i noticed that to, i do sweat more if i drink before. i also noticed if i drink after, ill sweat even more. its crazy, i hate that. ugh i wish it increased calorie burn, it would make my life a lot easier! :)
you might try drinking a sports drink to replace the electrolytes rather than water, or eating water-filled foods (fresh fruits and vegetables) to hydrate before or after.
this has nothing to do with calorie burn, but are you being treated for hyperhidrosis? my boyfriend has it, and he has tried all kinds of prescription creams and pills. the treatment that worked for him was (surprisingly) botox injections to the sweaty areas. so there are lots of treatments available. now he hardly even sweats when he works out! good luck.
