mt friend eats about 1700 calories in the morning and nothign else during the day so she can work alot off.. is that good? i really don't know..
Well... it seems to work for at least one of our regulars.
I don't know if it's "bad". Is 1700 calories how many she needs to lose weight or maintain?

probably would need less.. but considering shes not eating anymore that day shes going to work it off more, wont she?
not necessarily. She eats it, she burns it the same way. It doesn't matter when she eats it.
Considering that your body does not normally process more than 700 calories in one sitting, and that your body requires constant energy during the day, I would say that it is not recommended.
Not necessarily bad in terms of doing permanent damage to her body, but it is not totally healthy.

it works for a few people... but in general i would say she should re-evaluate why she's doing it.
to work a lot off? your body burns calories all day. it doesn't matter whether you eat 1700 in 1-2 hours or over the course of a day, over the 24 hour period your body will still burn off the same amount.
from what i've read, the body can only absorb up to 600 calories per meal properly... or around that figure. please feel free to correct me, anybody. your body will still release relatively more insulin, which is a 'fat storage' hormone (a little more complex than that)
the point of spreading those 1700 out over the day is to keep your blood sugar stable as well. by the time she reaches night time does your friend feel drowsy or tired or even sick? i personally just don't think it's a great idea for most people. especially if she's doing a lot of exercise afterwards.

yeah shes 117, 5'6 and waants to maintain her weight.. she is doing alot of cleaning and house work and going for walks and stuff.. is that bad??
117 is not a healthy weight for someone who is 5'6".
Her BMI is 18.3 which is simply too small. Please suggest to your friend that she eat more.

it's not 'bad' but it's not good either...
explain to her that she will burn off 1700 a day. if she eats 3-6 meals a day (up to 1700cals) she will still burn off 1700. she will probably feel better being able to eat at different times of the day, such as dinner with her family, etc. :)
edit - oh, oops HK. i missed the BMI :o!

its scary she wants to drop a few pounds, why i dont know.. but im going to show her this site and that this isnt the right way, thanks guys!
Good for you! Good luck! :D
thanks, i want her to have energy, i can see why she would eat it all at once and not eat the rest of the day, but she REALLY doesnt need to loose weight and she hardly ever stops doing somthing.. im just worrried!!
With good reason. If she's always busy, she should be eating a little more than maintenance, to make up for the calories burned while working.
It sounds like she may be trying desperately to lose those few last pounds, in a not particularly healthy manner

*braces for impact*
yeah i know how many calories SHOULD she be eating? like if shes working extra hard, with house work, what if shes burning more than shes eating, i dont want her to disapear on me:S
Well. Why don't you go use the site tools. :) Click on 'Tools' above and then 'Expenditure' :)
Tell her to use the tools on the site and find out for herself. She can put her info into the BMI tool to see where her body size is. Use the Expenditure tool to figure out how many calories she needs to maintain her current weight.
She can use the Activity database to figure out the average calories she burns with certain activities.
But then, I'm sure you know all this stuff already and I'm just being redundant.

thats ok, thank you guys, i want her to love herself, she wont gain weight by eating all her calories in the morning will she? if that girl gains weight im scared to know what she might do, will she gaing weight?
You should read into what Bigtwinky suggested, regarding your body only handling 700 calories a meal.
Honestly, your friend is underweight. She probably needs to gain some, though I don't see her agreeing with that.

Hey, I just wanted to say that it is bad your friend is eating all her calories in one sitting. The reason being is that her metabolism (the rate at which you process food in your stomach) slows way down after four / five hours. And if she doesnt eat for the rest of the day...............
Your friend would be better off eating 5/6 smaller meals a day!! But by the sounds of it she definately doesnt need to lose anymore weight!
