i don't know what to do about summer clothes!

Quote  |  Reply
okay here's the deal....i live in indiana and it's starting to get warm out 70's and 80's on most days. now NONE of my clothes from last summer fit they are WAY too big which is great! but my problem is i have nothing to wear this summer. i don't have alot of money, i don't have any money actually. even going to like goodwill is a big deal money wise. so...i don't know what do to about clothes. if i scrape up the money to go and get some now i know they are going to be to big in a month or two and then i'll have to find some more money all over again....aahhh! i don't know what i expect you guys to say to this. i guess i'm just complaining. i mean it's great to lose weight but why does EVERYTHING always have to have a down side? maybe it's just my mood tonight....i've had the most horrible week ever....my husband and i got into it tonight...i've been at the same weight for over a week....and now i have nothing to wear...oh well suck it up. sorry for the long whiney post...just needed to get it all out.

Maybe try to find stuff with drawstrings.  Or things with elastic type waistbands(most come in small, medium, large, and XL) think things like gauchos and then buy one size smaller.  Since they're elastic they won't hurt you being tighter (and gauchos are loose in the legs) and I'm sure you'll have plenty of shirts that are baggy so you can hide the fact that their too tight until they fit well.  And since they're elastic, they should fit for awhile.  At least longer than jeans and khakis.  Or get some cotton summer dresses or elastic skirts.
ahh thanks for posting. i was worried that no one would cause i was kinda whiney and crappy. i guess it's just been a bad week and i'm feeling sorry for myself. but i will totally take you advice. i've been seeing alot of people wearing gauchos and i think they are really really cute. hopefully i can find some for not much money.
Drawstrings are the best clothes to have while you are losing weight.
What size are you? Maybe someone has some clothes they'd be willing to send you... I would. If I have anything I can't wear anymore, I am happy to send them on! I'll pay postage, won't cost you a thing!
melojo you read my mind.... that's what I was thinking.

lacirrom,
I think you're about  22, or 23 from your profile, and you said you want to be a hot mama.... I'm guessing you don't mean 'cuz it's summer and you only have sweats to wear!!!   Anyway, I too would be happy to ship off some cloths to you on my dime.  I love that you and your sister are working together on this, and I've struggled before too, it's no fun....  Anyway, I have a daughter who is 23 and she and her friends have tons of cloths... some of them may well be your size.  Your profile has you weight at 170 something, I think???  Anyway, what size are you, and would you be interested in posting an address or emailing it to a few of us who might be able to get you some stuff.  Keep what you like and take the rest to GoodWill for someone else to use.
yup, i think a clothing exchange is a good idea!  i sometimes take clothes to the salvation army, but i'd be just as happy to send them to anyone here.  most of you would have to cut off the sleeves and pants legs, though, cuz i'm 5'10".

i can do (some) alterations, too, if anyone needs them.  but gotta finish a bridesmaid's dress, first.  daughter #1's wedding is coming up soon. . . i'm making the dress for daughter #2.

anyway, i second what meljo said, and if you want to send me some of your clothes to take in, lacirrom, just email me, ok??
I'm planning to take my clothes to a local consignement shop and use the money I get for them to buy a few pieces there.  I do have some clothes in my closet that are the next size down so I have a bit of a head start.  For years I've only bought classic styles that don't go out of fashion.  I have lots of pretty tees that will look fine if they are a little loose, or even baggy.  I'm saving up for a big splurge on clothes when I finally reach my goal.

I know what it is to be strapped for money - I'm a senior citizen living on social in-security.

My Husband just lost over 50lbs and he sold all his (good) old clothes on e-bay.  I could not believe what some people paid for his old clothes.  Sometimes he got even more than he originally paid for them.  But... a few things didn't sell ( & there is a listing fee).  I plan on selling some of my old clothes at a yard sale I have planned the first weekend of June.  I am going to use every last penny of my profits to get me some nice new summer duds.   I also have a good girlfriend that is/was about the size I am at right now.  She is going to the gym and has lost 15lbs.  So I am going over to her house to try on some of her old clothes.   I was also thinking of doing a clothes swap at my place.  Most of my girlfriends are similar height &  we have all been bigger & smaller and have all went up and down over the last few years.  So I put the word out and everyone seems interested.   Hope this give you some ideas??

God bless you... I know what you mean about the clothes, I just went and bought some new jeans because my old ones were too big.. and the new jeans cost me 100 bucks... but I guess i would rather spend the limited money on smaller clothes that larger ones... I was up to a XXXL shirt and now I am a XL...
I'm having the same problem and had just posted something on this a little while back. I like the draw string idea! That saves from having to buy for the duration of a couple sizes.

It does get depressing when you are stuck at a weight for bit but it always breaks if you keep at your plan. Adapting to this life style change has its ups and downs but I am hoping it levels off at some point. Emotions seem to run high at times.

Wishing you luck on the clothes, I know how it feels to be stuck in nowhere land....between your previous weight and your goal.
all of you are so sweet on here. i went to bed last night feeling grouchy...then i got up this morning to find all of these wonderful postings. i wear a 14 in pants right now and a large in most shirts. i know that will be going to soon. i have one pair of 12 from several years ago that fit me also. everyone is so nice to offer to send me clothes. i'll go ahead and email you my address. but please don't feel like you have to do this....you guys are all soooo nice!
well some of you i can't find an email address. would it be safe for me to post my address on my profile though?
oh not be greedy but my sister just called and i told her about how nice all of you are and she said "hey tell them i need clothes too...22's and x-large shirts" so i told her i would let you guys know.
okay i put my address on my profile if anyone wants it but please don't feel like you have to send anything
Try Ebay.  People sell their used clothes that are in GREAT SHAPE at really cheap prices.  I shop ebay all the time......Check it out
oh dear, lacirrom, all the things i've "shrunk" out of are 16's and larger.  i doubt if i'll ever get smaller than a 14.  i'm 5'10"!   i'd have to be awfully skinny to wear a 12.  i hope that some one else is smaller and can send you some 14's!!
I think the clothing swap is a great idea.......
i'm in a 14, my sister is in a 22 and my mom is down to a 18 ( we are all doing this together) we have clothes that my sister is out of in like 26's and my mom has a few things in 20's that are alittle "mature" for me and my sister's taste if you know what i mean. we would be happy to send them to anyone who needs them.
*wonders if Canadian sizes are different* I'm coming out of 13/14 just now, and into 11/12...

I know I have a couple pairs of size 14 pants that are big on me-just regular bootcut pants. lemme see what I can scrape up for you.  if nothing else, they can be cut off to make capris or something.

^_^
lacirrum,

Where at in Indiana are you?  Just curious..that is where I live.  My actual address says Kewanna but a town a little closer and a littler larger is Winamac.

Anyways keep you eye out for when Good Will has their 50% off days.  They had one today and I got 3 large bags of clothes for my family and I and my total was $25.00.  It is amazing.

I sell the clothes that are too big for me on Ebay also and I put that money in a little fund and then I go shopping at Good will once or twice a month.   Just a thought.

Good luck.
