I think I don't know how to use my new pedometer
I got this cute pedometer for my birthday, I know it cost over $20 so I think it shouldn't be bad. It is the one that you put in your belt and counts steps, miles and calories burned. So I tried in my workout of today.
I did 40 minutes of aerobics and 20 minutes of pilates, and say 20.6 Kcal. Is this correct? I was sweating my life, but the calorie burned barely moved.
Should I put this directly toouching my body, or it is Ok to put over my cloth. I put a belt over my waist, so it was touching my belly. Could the sweat ruin the pedometer.
I know I am doing somethin wrong, but I am not sure what. Teh brand is Sport Line
I usually just clip mine to my waistband, with the clip facing out the the pedometer touching my skin. I'm not sure if that's the correct way to wear it but it works for me. i can't help you with the calorie thing mine doesn't tell the calories burned. but sweating totally ruined mine and i had to buy another.
20.6 KCal is definitely wrong, but I don't know what to tell you about the pedometer. Maybe it is only programmed to work for full walking strides?
im almost sure they are only set for walking strides,if you want something that tells you all calories burnt through activities you can get a heart rate monitor that you wear like a wrist watch they normally have a calorie burnt setting on them as well
thanks!
So what should I use the pedometer for? I though it was for controlling calories burned. How do I know if it set for full walking strides?
The manual said count 10 steps (toe to toe), measure the distance in inches, divides by the number of steps (10), and set that number as your stride. It was weird though, since I have small feet, so my stride was 11, but the minimum stride you can set is 12. So that is the number I set. I didn't understand what is a stride anyway.
hope you can help me. Sorry if they are dumb questions, but I never had one of these.
no, i think you misread the instructions. you should be measuring ten normal-length strides, then dividing by 10. this is so that the pedo can calculate the distance you cover based on how many strides (counting strides is the only thing that pedo actually does. everything else is calculated based on this and the information you input).
it's really only for walking and running.
I have been waering a sportline pedometer for a year now and mine works fine.
The way to waer it is on the waistband with the clip inside and the pedometer facing outside, so it doesnt get ruined by sweat. Make sure you have a snug waistban, so that it is accurately able to calculate the distance and calories.
Also, you would need to set up your stride length and weight to make the pedometer give correct results. I think your may be on the preset numbers and hence not very accurate for you.
On an average I notice for for 1000 steps, i burn 30-35 calories. My weight is 135 lbs and stride length 2 feet.
Hope this helps.
thanks all of you!
