Don't ever mix vanilla whey protein.....

Quote  |  Reply

with coffee.  It's absolutely disgusting as I found out this morning. I thought I would try mixing my vanilla whey into my during/after workout iced coffee. Trying to go for the vanilla latte kind of thing.....well let's just say I managed to gag it down but oh my god was it nasty!

what a coincidence, I just tried mixing my "natural" whey protein with water.  Barf.  I ended up having to chase it with some OJ.

thank for the heads up I've been thinking about trying that. I found out today that if I mix it w/ like four ounces of milk and six ounces of water it really cuts out the after taste. : )

but you know what vanilla whey protin is nice with ... oatmeal .. yum.

I mix a scoop in with my oatmeal every morning it given the oatmeal just enough sweetness that i don't need to add syrup/ suger or anything and its a great way to get your protein up in the morning.

oh thats a great idea thanks ! i'm always throwing a bit of fat free coffeemate it it to liven it up a bit -- but i'd much rather add protein and vanilla flavor!  thanks.

Blending a banana and even strawberryis into vanilla whay is also super yummy and a great way to start breakfast.

Umm..I could be totally wrong but I heard adding protein to hot stuff denatures the protein and ruins the benefits of it.  Anyone know if this is true?

It makes sense since heat and pH denature protein but I don't know if they're still effective...

yeah sort of but its got to be pretty hot, so i wouldn't suggest cooking the protien powder in the oatmeal.

What i do is make the oatmeal as normal then mix the powder into some cold milk and then add it to the oatmeal just before i eat it... the milk/protien helps it all cool down fast so i don't burn my tongue... hehe and the cold milk brings the temp down and it stops it killing the protein

besides you know if it was too hot it go's all freaky and lumpy hehe .. which is part of the protein break down .... i use the rule of thumb that as long as it hasn't gone lumpy then i didn't have it too hot.  Personally i find it has to be pretty much boiling it make it go weird

i actually don't think this is true.  no one suggests eating raw egg whites or chicken bec of a possibility of denaturing a protein.  raw foodism is a great thing and one that means more vitamins and nutrition, but i don't think it has an impact on protein.

here's an idea for protein powder:  scroll down to the 5 minute metabolic pie in this t-nation article on increasing protein w/flavor

I mix my vanilla protein powder with OJ. ITs super yummy.

I mix my chocolate protein powder with milk.

I found the key for me to is to mix up the drink and let in sit in the fridge for 30-60 minutes. Then when I drink it, it has settled and is super yummy.

I do this everyday after my workouts, its reall something to look forward too while your doing cardio at points you like "this sucks" then you thinking I can't wait to get back to blend that **** up.  I use the banana milkshake reciepe on here without and substitute the milk with water and add a scoop of body fortress vanilla whey and 2 splendas.  So you getting approx 50-60 cals from the frozen banana and 110 from the protein so thats 170 roughly with about 20g's of lean protein and natural sugars. cant beat that.  God im hungry now thanks

I haven't had the vanilla yet - I use the double chocolate whey protein and mix with vanilla yogurt (non-fat), 1/2 frozen banana, 1/2 c. frozen blueberries, 1/2 c. frozen strawberries, and a splash of skim milk to make the blender work! I love it, but I think that next time I'll get the vanilla...

Any other recipes for these things? I am thinking of using them for meal replacements for dinner (mix some salmon in maybe)? LOL Gross, jk.

another idea is to mix it with OJ or cranberry jucie. It raises your carbs, but really tastes good with vanilla.... kinda like a creamcicle

I use it in the morning after my work out by making a smoothie it is great I add 1/4 cup of frozen blueberries, 1 banana, 1 cup of no fat yoqurt, 2 tbsp of orange juice 1 scoop of vanilla protein and 10 ice cubes and blend it in the blender it is great makes around 24oz and last for hours to drink it I bring it to work and it last me till lunch time around 300 cal all togeather great start to the day
