Don't take your pets for granted!

This past Monday had to take my cat to the vet to have him put down. The vet is not 100% sure what was wrong with him but is pretty sure it was cancer. About a week and a half before, he quit eating and drinking and slept all of the time. He would lie in one spot all day, not jump on the bed, not jump on the couch, not gripe when dinner time came around, not act like himself at all. He lost a lot of weight because he wouldn’t eat so I had to force him to eat & drink with a syringe. We had as much testing done as we could afford but all of his blood work came back normal. He just kept getting worse and worse and I could tell he was suffering and wasn’t getting better. Granted, he was 15 years old but has always been totally frisky and healthy right up until about 2 weeks ago when he suddenly started acting this way. He was my best buddy, always wanting to be in my lap, always sleeping right next to me each night, always there to cheer me up. Now my house feels totally empty without him and every little thing reminds me of him. It was the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do was to pick him up and take him to the vet office knowing he wouldn’t be coming back with me and holding his paw and petting him when the vet gave him the shot and watching the life slip out of his body. I will never forget the feeling.

My point:  This happened so quickly, we never saw it coming. I knew he wouldn’t live forever but less than 2 weeks before he was acting fine. Please don’t take your pets for granted. You don’t know what will happen and how long they will be with you.

So sorry for your loss. They are part of the family.

My childhood cat died a few years ago, he lived 15 years.  Even to this day when I go into my parents house I always look around for him... so yes the house does seem empty without them! It's hard getting used to the fact that he's not there anymore.  We had him since I was 8 years old. I had to get another pet right away to ease the pain.  I'm sorry for your loss... you did the right thing, I hate to see an animal suffer.

I'm so sorry for your loss!

Your post made me cry very hard as I will be going through the exact same thing with my beloved 11 year old beagle in the coming weeks. There are no words...

I'm so so sorry...

Sorry to here about your loss {{hugs}}.

I am so sorry...I know how it hurts!   I had to put my kitty down last year because of FIP...I still cry to think about it...
