Don't Shake the Floor!
Help! I need to find some work out routines that don't require me to jump around and shake the whole house! I live on the second floor in my family's house and don't want everyone to know I'm working out by moving the whole house.
Anything suggestions? I can't workout in the basement becuase the ceilings are 5'10" and I'm 6'. Gyms cost too much, and it's the middle of winter, so can't go outside. Meep!
some suggestions: yoga, pilates, weight lifting... exercise bike
Squats, knee-bending and crunches.
any kind of home workout you can study, or if you have a gaming console i suggest dance dance revolution more stepping than jumping.
WEIGHTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
just do everything modified. Jumping jacks w/o the jump you just alternate feet fast . Squats w. alternating knee ups Punching (look up some combos online - fun esp if u listen to the right music!).
Heres one of my favs that invovle nothing but u:
25 squats
25 push ups
25 supermans (lie on floor, extend arms in front, bring up legs and arms so flying like superman! hold for 1/2 sec )
25 full sit ups
repeat 4 times
you'll be sweating nicely be end of this workout!
I disagree with the DDR suggestion. It shakes the house for me, I do a lot of songs that have air in them. Any time there is a rapid succession of double arrows, you have to jump.
Yeah I don't have any game systems to do DDR and no equipment expect a few small weights.
Obviously I'm trying to find ways to accelerate my heart rate without too much moving of my feet. Thanks for the suggestions so far! Anyone else?
I lived above my ex fiance's grandparents for awhile, so I know what you mean. I relied a LOT on my weights (muscle burns fat, everyone should lift!), and dancing......I mean hips side to side and such basically doing it while standing in place or with as little 'jumping/pounding' as possible. I also did a lot of walking in place.....it's hard to be too loud while doing that and I did different things with my arms while walking to get extra movement!
or hula hoops! You don't actually have to have a hula hoop (which is good, cuz I cant at all) but the circular motion of the hips at a fast rate really gets the heart rate going!
You could also try to buy a 'stepper'.......i used to have one. it's super small, just goes on the ground and acts like a tiny stair machine or elliptical.....
First off I am a little concerned you dont want people to know your exersizing.. is it like to be mindful of thier peace and quiet or somthing else? If its about peace and quiet get them up off the couch to and make it a family thing.
however if they wont (I know my family never normally does) try this stuff I used to do it in my dorm if I was to lazy to walk to the gym.
Kicks and punches (real ones jab cross hook upper cut etc look it up on you tube for correct form and stance). squats etc if you do them long enough you will sweat. I would suggest head phones for this with a really good beat it will keep your pace up on it. Engauge your abs the whole time no matter if it is a kick or punch.
Dancing not all loosey goosey (all though that is fun and gets your heart pumping to) but keeping muscles tense and really trying to work them out. This should give you a good sweat.
Take a run out side.. go rollerblading or ice skating in a rink. Either of these hobbies can be pretty cheap esp if you have a frozen solid pond near by or some where you can rollerblade outside (I dont know your climate) since these are both hobbies no one needs to know you are doing it for a work out.
Kick boxing videos may also be good. I think there would be very little jumping involved in them.
I just bought Amy' Bento's extreme I am scared to look at it just yet because I have not been able to get back through my turbo jam 20 min video with out dying. But I can review it for you if its of interest to see just how much jumping is involved. I have heard it is a pretty avanced workout..
I AM SOOOO OUTTA SHAPE RIGHT NOW!!! :/
But yea turbo jam is great to you can modify like everything so your feet never leave the floor. Hip hop abs is also good i cannot remember any jumps in it.
www.beachbody.com you can take a look at what they have to offer then hit ebay amazon or you fave cheapy net place for it probally in a week or 2 after everyone has given up on thier new years resolutions and get them wicked cheap.
Try kickboxing -- a few rounds of jabs, hooks, uppercuts and then kicks - front kicks, side kicks, back kicks; roundhouse kicks. the impact is very low but the cardio factor is high if you keep moving -- just hit the air instead of a bag.
