Welcome to CC, Betty -- you'll find yourself among friends. Mmmm brownies and coffee -- like you already!
The meters -- it can be a little daunting at first -- give it time, you can't learn it all in one day.
The EAT meter TOP number shows the number of calories you have selected as your target goal (in your account settings -- you can change it)
The EAT meter BOTTOM number reflects the calories you are logging into your food log.
The BURN meter TOP number is the total estimated calories you burn based on your age, height, current weight, gender, and activity level -- if you set yourself as "sedentary" and then add in your activity calories -- those are added into the TOP number.
The BURN meter BOTTOM number shows how many calories you have burned at the moment you are looking at the meter. This number starts at 0 at midnight, reflects all the calories you burned throughout the night while sleeping, all the calories you burn just by living, and calories normally expended at your listed activity level. When (If) you add in activity minutes -- it will also reflect that added to the total.
If you stay up til midnight you can see both meters switch over to 0
If you have any more questions, please don't hesitate to ask
Your body burns calories just by being "alive." Keeping your heart beating, lungs breathing, organs working, just being awake and moving around through your day...that burns calories. So the burn meter shows the number of calories your body burns based on height, weight, age, etc. If you have your activity level set to "Sedentary," then it does not take into account any additional activity, and the meter will go up accordingly when you enter something onto your Activity Log.
Hi, thank you so much that does explain how the burn meter works. So am I suppose to eat more cal. than I burn?
no no no -- you want to Burn more calories than you eat...you are looking for a deficit between your Eat Meter and your Burn meter of 100-1000 calories (the size of the deficit determines the speed of the weight loss) -- but will depend on your current weight, the amount you wish to lose, your activity level and the requirement to not drop below 1200 calories for daily intake.
Hi and welcome Betty!
Goodbrownies, no you can't set the clock on the burnmeter.
Hello Betty from your new neighbor in CT !!!
I am tow day old memeber myself so us "nubbies" gotta stick together.
Hope all is well and WELCOME.....this a great site to help you track calories.
take care........Bruce
I am so glad that I am not the only one who didn't understand the burn meter....I looked all over this website trying to find an explanation & never really found it, so my husband explained it to me, so I will try my best to explain it to you. Basically it's the amount of calories you need to be burning daily to loose weight (if that's your goal) or maintain your weight (if that's your goal).
My goal for calorie intake is 1200 daily (I'm trying to loose) Therefore I need to burn around 1700+ calories daily to meet my burn. You should be burning 500-1000 more calories than your calories you take in.
Biggest looser website & book expains this concept very well too.
Hope that helps & good luck!
