Is your scale functioning right?
If you look the same, why does the number on the scale matter?
My scale fluctuates by ten pounds. I can get on it, have it 1read 70, then the next day it will say 180, and then the next it will be 175, and then the next it will be 171, and then 180 again... I wouldn't worry too much!
Yeh. It sounds like a normal weight flux to me.
Scared?  Of what?  You know you didn't gain, so it's your scale.  In fact, that's the first thing you should look at if the number doesn't seem right.
...but how do i know it was just a scale thing? because its the second time its said i weigh a lot more. i'm sorry if i'm being whiny and annoying...i know i obsess over these things but it scares me :(

I think everyone is telling you to check a different scale. Undecided

Is it a digital scale too? Because mine is always telling me a different number and apparently you have to weigh yourself 3 times and go with the 3rd number because it's "warming up" or some other crazy thing like that.

But like everyone else said- if you look the same I wouldn't worry so much. Especially if you are working out. I know my friend and I fit into the same clothes and she is 20 lbs. lighter than me... and it's because I've got a lot more muscle that she does... now, not saying that you gained 10 lbs. in muscle in a week... but still. It's something to consider. The number on the scale being smaller doesn't mean you are more tone or look better in clothes.

Another thing to consider is whether you weighed yourself at the same time each day.  According to my scale, I weigh the least in the morning after I get back from the gym and take a shower and use the bathroom, which makes sense, because I sweat like a pig at the gym and it only makes sense if you expel stuff from your body that the scale will read less.  If I weigh myself just before bedtime, that is usually when my scale says I weigh the most.  And the number varies throughout the day.  Another thing to consider is whether you are retaining water like many women do during certain times of the month.  I can't speak to this personally, not being a woman, but I have read enough threads here with women talking about premenstrual weight gain.

So like others have said.

1.  If your clothes fit the same, then suspect your scale.

2.  Consider buying a new scale, especially if yours is not digital and/or is more than a year old.  Non-digital spring type scales wear out over time.

3.  Think about the possibility that you have gained some muscle or are retaining water or both.  Both of these could account for no change in measurements but weight gain on the scale.

You may just be retaing water.

Have you binged lately or even eaten things you normally don't?

My scale said I gained 3 lbs one day, I knew this couldn't be accurate, so the next day I stayed completely hydrated 64oz of water and my regular lower cal diet and apparently I lost those 3 pounds in one day. After a day of staying hydrated weigh yourself the next morning and this should reflect your real weight.

I would think that the majority of your "weight gain" is muscle.  You need to consider that muscle is twice as dense as fat, yet takes up only half the space.  So in theory you could be half as large and twice as heavy.  :) Worry more about how you feel and how you look then what your magic number is.

Oh BTW....I recently began loosing weight for medical reason...and I have seen as much as a 4lb loss/gain day  so you are going to be just fine.
