Don't want to go to Vietnam
This may sound strange and I am probably very spoiled but...
I just got back from a week in Istanbul, this weekend I am spending in Venice with friends, next weekend I have to go to Zurich for a job interview, the weekend after that my mom is visiting and at the end of May I am going to Vietnam for a month. In between I have to move countries and quit my job. I promised my sister I would go to Vietnam with her if I lost 50 pounds. Now I almost regret losing the weight. I planned the whole trip and in theory it should be great. We are travelling from North to South, I have planned some hikes and a 4 days biking trip and a bunch of other stuff. But all I can think at the moment is that I just don't feel like going. I have so much to do and organize and this trip is adding so much stress.
Just had to get this of my chest.
I guess my only reply is travel while you can. As for someone who has never made it out of the US, and with a tight income with 3 kids, i could only dream of some of the places you have been. Look at it as life lessons, things that you learn and see will make you a better employee, student, wife, mother, etc. When you are old and gray and look back at your life, you will have oodles of fun things to remember, and great stories to tell the grandkids! ...unlike mine.."oh, there was that time we drove thru the blizzard in Michigan..."![]()
My mom just went and said it was the most amazing trip she had ever taken. Don't worry about it, just pack the night before and go! If you forget something, you can buy it there for super cheap!
And it's one, two, three, what are we fighting for
don't ask me I don't give a damn, next stop is Viet Nam
And it's five, six, seven, open up the pearly gates
ain't no time to wonder why, whoopee we're all gonna die
Stop your whining and get over there.
I can understand you being so stressed with all you must do that you want to cut back on the things you don't have to do. You need time to catch your breath. Think of the Vietnam trip as the relaxing vacation you deserve. Perhaps plan less, let go, and make your plans when you are there, after breakfast each morning. I was in Thailand a few months ago and all the hotels/guest houses had trips you could book in the lobby. You might see a bit less but might enjoy it more. Enjoy.
And congrats on the impressive weight loss. Celebrate that!

this is where my head went, too.
just go. you'll have an amazing time, and when you get back you'll probably get sick and sleep for a week, but you'll have been to Vietnam.
You're just overwhelmed at the moment.
Don't think about the trip too much at this point. Once you get there you will be able to focus on the experience itself and enjoy it for the awesomeness that it is as well as for the time with your sister.
Congrats on the 50lbs lost! I hope the trip turns out as a great reward instead of the burden it is feeling like right now.
One day at a time!
You could join the Texas Air National Guard. Then you wouldn't have to go to Vietnam.
