Ate a donut today, logged it in with the rest of the food I've eaten today, analyzed it all and guess what....I got a nutritional grade of A! Was it a whole-grain, sugar-free, fat-free, vegan macrobiotic donut? Nope! Was it delicious? Yeah baby! Will I eat another one sometime? Probably.

Anyone else care to share some little "loopholes" they've found in the calorie count database?

What CC reflects is that there are no bad foods, just bad diets.  If you ate nothing but doughuts you'd have a problem.  If the rest of your day's foods were wholesome and nutritious and the doughnut didn't take you over the recommended sugar or fat percentages... an A sounds reasonable.  I don't see that as a loophole.

where does BIG MAC rate? LOL

It's just in conjunction with what else you have eaten today. A donut is not healthy... it's very high calorie and loaded with sugar.

I realize, of course, that donuts are not good for me, but I just wonder...if I logged in ONLY donuts for a day, would CC still give me an A?  Probably not, but it would still be fun to try it. ;-)

It's not exactly a loophole - a donut is a donut.  There's no reason to not have one and enjoy it every once in a while, but a good grade on CC doesn't exactly negate the calories, sugar, or fat consumed.

I tend to not pay attention to the grading system anyway.  I once discovered that even eating a cheeseburger, a half slab of ribs, potatoe salad, and pecan pie in one day won't affect that grade if I just have a couple of bowls of steamed broccoli.  That doesn't mean I'm going to be repeating it everyday.

Hmmmm - doughnuts!

Actually I've put in a doner kebab and eaten sensibly the rest of the day and got a good grade on CC.

Companies like McDonalds have always claimed their products were okay in a balanced diet. Now I'm starting to think they are right. Trouble is the reason we all got in the state we are is due to the lack of balance in our diet! However as consumers of their products we should get them to make their products healthier.

"Everything in moderation" - an oft said phrase, the wisdom of which is recognised but sadly not followed. Instead we do things in excess just because we can.

Actually I think doner kebabs are not that bad for you, at least the way they make them in Germany...lots of lettuce, tomato and shredded cabbage, and the meat is fairly lean.  The sauces could get you, I guess, and it's probably wise to only eat half of one.  Aren't they about 800 calories total?  Anyway, they have to be better for you than that processed garbage from McD's, yes?

haha in britain the kebab drips fat its not lean meat either, its lamb ground down to mulsh, added spices and seasoning, then shaped, I'd bet alot that it uses bulking agents and all sorts to make it a meat texture. mmm i crave one right now. and yeah they pile the salad on but always pick it off, im not eating hot salad

and as for doughnuts there is no sugar in the batter and only a little bit of butter, the mixture comes from water and the majority of fat from the frying process,

and as for McDonalds http://www.mcdonalds.co.uk/?f=y click eat smart then nutrition counter, check the cals, they arent that bad (toasted deli sandwich with cheese 600 cals, not bad for lunch)

I get in the C/D range whenever I have one (which is usually on Thursday).  I guess they provide something CC has determined you desperately need.  Me, OTOH, I need carbs and sugar like a hole in the head, so I get scorned with a C or D.  I'm thinking that could change if I throw in more exercise.

i found that to be true too...

i ate a donut every morning of this week and i still hav grade A, weirdness :O but im wondering does it cause weight gains if u only eat one a day...

You only gain weight if you consume more calories than you use up.  The trouble with doughnuts and similar is that for the 200 or so cals.... which is gone in 5 minutes.... they aren't very satisfying or nutritious.  They 'don't touch the sides', if you like.  If you ate the same amount of calories in the form salads, fruit, vegetables and other wholesome foods you could create quite a satisfying, balanced snack.

Donuts have carbs, fat, and fruit (in a jam one). All they're missing is the protein. Course they're healthy lol Laughing

Heh - get a cherry cheese danish!  Cheese has protein, right?  Wink
